You are looking a sequential shift system designed for the 996 Turbo. FVD was kind enough to allow me to post the first pictures of it on here for you guys to see!!!!! There are 2 versions of the shifter, the first is manual and the other is electromagnetic. Both kits come with a gear display gauge and are VERY COOL. I saw this kit in person last week, so yes it does exist (saw both types). I do not know a ton about it, but I can tell you what I do know:
-Clutch is used for all gears
-Shifter is pushed forward to shift up
-Shifter is pulled back to down shift
-Electromagnetic shifter requires A LOT less force

As far as I know yes...replaces the entire shifter under there...

ok, a sequential shifter for a non-sequential gearbox and no electronic/pneumatic clutch mechanism. Is the only point so you don't have a chance of missing a gear? I can't see this improving shift times much and definitely wouldn't make the car any easier to drive.

I assume the driver has to use the clutch, not that the
system does the clutch itself, correct?

Like I said Steve I don't work for FVD so i don't know much about it...I would say the best bet is to call them...I know it is quicker, and yes no chance of missed gears, beyond that you will have to ask them...

hey joe, i'm not actually interested in the product so i'm not going to call them but i am fairly knowledgable about gearboxes and shifters. If you call there are some things i'd love to hear about.

First off, how did they deal with reverse? Second, how fast do the shifts actually happen? Overall what i assume that is is a mechanical linkage that moves the gears in a standard H pattern as you press forward or backwards. I would be concerned about having that many moving parts in a shifter linkage.

Anyway, it's cool to see a radical product, i just am not convinced it will help anything and it definitely has the potential to break much more than a standard shifter setup.

Not yet no, everyone that has come in had been presold, and their thing is that they will not install a part on a shop car if there are customers waiting...good policy, but kinda sux...they told me they will let me know as soon as they have one in a car that I can drive!!

The Mekenna cars are using this system in their GT3 R's with lots of success! Of course they also have Porsche factory drivers in their cars, and Porsche "Factory money" to back them up!

 

FVD copies so many products out there. If you skim their catalog, they replicate Gemballa, RUF, Techart, and everyone else.

 

Um...I believe they are dealers for those 3(not in US)........
