Random impressions after a road trip
Random impressions after a road trip
Took the '03 turbo to Florida with my son for a few days during spring break.
We were able to easily fit 2 full golf bags, shoes, 2 duffle bags, and a laptop bag with room to spare - no negative impact at all on visibility.
The 550 miles there was relatively wide open. We averaged @74mph and 24.7mpg - which I was very impressed with given the mods. (I get @15 mpg around town). Cruised a good portion in 6th gear. Took @8 hours including breaks.
On the way back, we hit a ton of traffic. I did not calculate mpg or speed but it took us 11 hours.
This car is very very comfortable, IMO the driving position is near spot on perfect. Contrasted with a recent 8 hour trip in my wifes SUV - after 3 hours in that my right foot / ankle was aching. I was comfortable the entire trip in the Porsche, as was my passenger - no aches / pains the next day either (I have the Supple seats - not Sport).
Head was a bit buzzy by the end of the trip, but not too bad - a few hours and we were back to normal.
Visibility continues to impress me in this car.
Car did not miss a beat, mechanically, during the trip. It is awesome to pass at will, with authority - if needed.
Other Observations =
- A vast majority of other drivers simply suck. I was amazed at how many people in Priuses, big SUVs, Camrys, cars loaded with bikes, roof racks, etc drove very fast (like 90-100mph). Not only that, they would routinely zip into the middle or right lane to pass others.
- I now understand the new rules...The left lane must now be for cruising. The middle lane is for speed. The right lane is for passing. WTF.
- While I have a Valentine1 and a radar jammer, I really enjoyed the use of an app called Waze. Was a navigation map where others report police locations, traffic, etc. Out of the @12 police locations - it accurately predicted 10 of them. Neat tool.
