Magic clutch :)

I don't know how, but after final tuning on 100 oct with 1.5 bar, spinning tires through 3rd gear after installing alphas a couple weeks ago, the stock clutch has held strong! I was planning on replacing it right after the upgrade because I expected it to give out pretty fast once tuning was complete and the power was turned up.
To my surprise it hasn't slipped once. The car just hit 40k miles and I bought it a year ago at 32k. I have the service records from the previous owner but no record of a new clutch. How is this possible? Anyone else have this kind of luck with their clutch?

Be surprised if you hit 41k, lol.

Mine held up for 25k miles with ~550ish tq to the ground. YMMV.

Get it upgraded before you glaze it

I think if you do a few full throttle power shifts and try coming off the line hard it will BUT if it doesn't I would question your power level..

In all honesty I haven't done any extreme launches or engaged in any driving that would be especially harmful to the clutch yet, but I thought that just having this level of mods would be enough to smoke it when accelerating at WOT.
I am not exaggerating when I say that during the logging pulls I did for EPL the traction light would blink all the way through 1st and second, and still blinked when boost peaked when accelerating through 3rd. I really didn't think the stock clutch was capable of putting down that kind of power.
I have to admit, I am thankful for the delay in needing a clutch. Knock on wood everything turned out great with no nasty surprises. This is the biggest project I've attempted on my own since working on my old Chevelle in my 20's and I was a little scared of damaging this engine considering the replacement cost.
I am loving these new turbos

When my X50 car just had a tune and exhaust, 505 HP rear wheel, with stock clutch it didn't slip on pulls Ever only on hole shots and power shifting after awhile.

With 525whp and 515wtq, my stock clutch holds well, except for fast shifts at 7,000rpm to 4th gear (other gears hold fine) and on a launch. The clutch held fine with the old tires, that would spin on launch, but with the Michelin PSS's it's game over, no launches for me.

Later, Steve

Mine is pretty shot. Apparently, one (or more) of the previous owners didn't know how to drive a manual. There's no way I'd even attempt a launch, as I get slippage even when letting out the clutch on hard-ish acceleration from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.

So my mods have to begin with a new clutch. Doing my homework...

Maybe you have little grip in your tires? I would assume that spinning tires with little grip left in them is easier on the clutch and the drive train than a car that digs hard.

Could be...I'm running Continentals because that was the only pair of 315/25/19 tires I could find when it was time to replace them last time.

With Tune and Exhaust my clutch only slips when I shift hard into second. Other than that it is holding up. I have a Clutch Master stage 3 sitting on the shelf I just have not had the time to swap it.

Update

Well...after putting on some Pilot Super Sport tires last week and fixing a rather large boost leak this weekend, last night for the first time when I gave it full throttle in 3rd gear the tach went directly to 6500 and the car didn't go much faster at all. I guess I should be thankful the clutch lasted a few thousand miles
New clutch shows up tomorrow. I guess it wasn't a magic clutch at all.

take a vid. 4th gear 2k rpm. gun it. no way a stock clutch would ever take that on alpha's.
