New 996TT Owner, current Touring Suspension options for Touring
Hello Forum Members!
I am a new owner of a 2004 996TT Cabriolet with 86k miles on the clock. The car has the X-50 option and Carbon Ceramic Brakes. It car is a 1 owner car local to Bellevue WA and I purchased it from the original dealer (Barrier Porsche). It has an impeccable maintenance history.
I have joined 6 seed online but am only a voyeur (no posts) at this point. My plan for this car is mostly touring with no track or autocrossing as I have other cars and a shifter kart for that type of work.
I am writing to ask for advice and pricing on a coilover application as I want to lower the ride height and freshen the suspension. I want to avoid the point of lowering that requires the addition of extra suspension parts.
Perhaps just a set of lowering springs would work but I fear that 9 years may be a good reason to refresh the shocks too.
What is the best “Bang for the Buck” in your opinion?
Thank to all for all of the posts that I have read, I have come to the opinion that the 996TT is by far the best value on the planet for an affordable Super Car!!

You're in for a barrage of opinion on this one. Many guys will say PSS10 are the only way to go others will say H&R lowering springs are fine. Really depends on your needs / spending limit as to what you want to buy.
Porsche shocks seem to work well on lightly lowered cars (upto 1") and H&Rs have many positive reviews (and some negative) and are very cost effective.
Coil-over kits are great if you want to track the car, or want to adjust the height to any setting though most are still minimum 1". They are 5X the cost of springs but offer a lot more in terms of adjustability and the shocks are valved for the spring rate. Overall the best choice.
If you're just a street driver, simple lowering springs have been used by many with great results. If you want the full jam even if you're just a street driver and are ok with the higher cost, a full coilover kit is the ultimate solution.
Few examples:
H&R Spring PN 29385 $350
H&R CoilOver kit - 29462-2 $1875
PSS10 Coilover kit - $2790
KW Varient1 - $2600

i run simply h&r 'sport' ( middle stiffness ) springs against MO30's which are actually a pretty good ( and inexpensive vs coilovers ) setup with gt2 fitment wheels. i have never felt the suspension was lacking and i drive canyons mostly, freeways occasionally. car is lowered by the springs approx 40mm. but i do have sways and droplinks. prepare for added stiffness though if you opt for springs alone. never had coilovers, so can't speak on em.
I also just ordered a set of V3's from Dan. I'm really looking forward to how my car corners after these are installed.
