Just weighed my hood

using a bathroom scale. I weigh things two ways; first I weight the article by itself or with a lightweight support, then I weigh it by getting on the scale and holding the item. Subtracting out the support or myself gives the weight of the item at two ends of the scale range, thus taking out most if not all of the scale spring bias.

The stock hood weighed 33 lb by itself; no hinges or spring dampers

The $350 CF hood I bought a while ago and just installed weighed 21 lb.

It's probably mostly fiberglass with some CF; but then I only paid $350 for it. I would love to get a much lighter one, but I've only seen them for thousands of dollars.

Not in my bathroom! (single bedroom apartment) I did spare the other residents by wearing clothes during the weighing process out in the parking stall.

I just talked with the supplier and it is all CF, just not engineered for minimum plies and light weight geometry. I looks like it was just layed up on molds taken from an exisitng hood and made thick to make it robust.; no sandwich constuction.
