Aftermarket GPS
Thanks. I am not panning or replacing the Bose system (or getting PCM II, which costs 5 grand), so my two options are garmin, and alpine. Because I dont want the alpine screen to be external, the whole job would be a little over 3 grand to custom fit the screen in the center console (where the CD holder is). So I am probobly going to get the Garmin 2610 (or 2650), and try it out.
Thanks again,
Mehrabani
Stephen, where can I get the 2610 for 750?

I really didn't like the look of the PCM setup and had a VDO dayton system fitted below the existing climate control and radio in the space where the cd holder and cubby were - it's a very simple job, with the dvd drive under the drivers seat. The whole thing was about £1200, looks like a factory install, and fits perfectly - even has silver screen surrond that matches gearknob / handbrake trim etc.
I think from posting a while ago on a previous thread about this that the vdo site doesn't mention that there's North America coverage, but I remember that a separate search engine came up with the relevant disc. Well worth investigating.

I have the new Kenwood KNA-DV3100 Navigation System and the Kenwood DDX 7050 In dash touch screen monitor with the Kenwood KNA-VC300 Microphone/Voice Switch. It is awesome. New Amp, speakers, and Sub. also. Jamie at Rawlings Audio, Inc. did a great installlation job. The best. I highly recommend him. Phone # 626 578-9897 or cell 626 372-0744. He has done numorous Porsche installations. He was the main man at Paris Audio, in WLA. Jamie is located in Pasedena now. Thank you RobynC for the recomendation.

I put one in my Silverado truck a few months ago and I just love it. It has options for TV Tuner, XM etc. It is a single space unit with a motorized screen. The Navigation normally runs off of a DVD, but the DVD disk can easily be removed to play DVD videos, CDs, MP3s, etc. and then the navigation continues in a ram based mode. Alternatively, you can add an additional dvd player and keep the disk in all the time. I love this thing and I can't wait to put one in my Boxster and TT. It has provisions for a back up camera and external line inputs so I can plug in my ipod. It even has a vehicle dynamics mode. It is touch screen based and it can be controlled by voice...too cool!
The Pioneer navigation is simply unbelievable! I have a BMW 750 with factory Nav, my 2001 Turbo has the factory Nav, my wife's Cayenne has the new Porsche system and I have a custom van with a rockin' $15,000 5.1 surround system with the Alpine Nav and the new Pioneer AVIC-N1 has them all easily beat.
It tracks the most accurately, it has the best graphics, and it is the fastest system both for entering new destinations and how fast it computes. It uses a different navigation database than all the rest. It does not use the Nav Tech..I think the Pioneer data is more current and more accurate.
for what it is worth..
