Best deal on MAF?

I asked around but it sounds like it's a bit of a hit or miss with the reman ones.

I dunno dude, that $47 MAF didnt pan out for me ... it didnt work, made my car run really funny. I wouldnt go that route ... I think its one of those "you get what you pay for" kinda thang ... sorry man.

I'm going to do more research on the function of that diode but after reading this thread I don't think replacing the diode is the answer for a faulty MAF. With my previous knowledge of how a MAF works I was already skeptical our issues had to do with a diode.

According to that the diodes function is to link in the internal IAT sensor.

not in my experience. if you want to buy a new one? go ahead. the refurb one works exactly the same as the NEW one. it's the DIODE not the housing that needs to be NEW. whatever lol

what you get when you pay for a refurbbed MAF? is a new diode ( same ) in a refurbished bosch housing. same part number on box. same part. same... whatever LOL
if you had a problem, i would suggest you had other accompanying issues. not the maf alone. i know competent racing tuners and pros that use these all the time for the 47 bucks. they might not want to tell anyone since they can charge a 100 for a 50$ part. not saying they do? but they can.. and have.

Look at these other versions of the Bosch MAF that does not even have the diode.

i don't feel like arguing or delving deeper into the subject. i use refurbbed mafs on the RARE occasion i feel i need one. i was shared this little gem of a tip by someone who i trust without equivocation when it comes to this particular car. i'm also open to being proven wrong. but this isn;t the *issue* for that. lol
it doesn't sound to me as if you have tried one, so this is all really moot. saint ari has tried them, doesn't think it works properly. my experience is obviously quite different. pictures are not going to change that. use whatever you like. but don't try to tell me that the refub one(s) i have bought in the past don;t work. for me, they do.. but you'll have to take me at my word, that i *know* the difference.
or not lol

So just did some more research. It looks like our Bosch sensors are a hot film design. The sensor being that copper film in the air flow path.
My research has indicated that one of the ways MAF's fail is by operating outside of a range they were designed for. This fits in nicely with many on this board saying that the stock MAF's are only good for XXX HP. I wonder if this MAF was just an off the shelf Bosch unit not custom for our cars that may be found on much smaller Audi and VW engines so we are already at the edge of its design. From that, and the picture I posted above that shows various mouth openings I wonder if the mouth opening could be restricted in order to measure less air and then the ECU adjusted accordingly. In this situation we would hopefully not be burning up our sensors by overloading them but when tuned properly it would run just the same. The downside is that you better put in another modified MAF or you will be in trouble with the new tune.
Markski or any of the other tuners, does the above idea seem like a feasible option?
