it is the cause of it. the dogring 2nd gear ( can ) gets rounded and all the connecting parts to that dogring ( 1st/2nd gears and the triple cone synchros ) need to be replaced and the gear stack placement altered to move where 4th (iirc) gear sits in the stack using shims. it's like 100th of an inch tolerance differences,.. which is probably why it took so long for porsche to sort it out.

let alone let dealerships muddle thru the issue for years with little support beyond a rebuild to original oem spec.

i went thru all this ( obviously ) twice.

That's good to hear! I replaced the factory carpet and sound deadening

so the cabin is a little louder then usual. It's not terrible but I don't

want to add anything to it.

Fadi, how long after with the gt2 gears before you experienced pop out?

lol give us a couple days. Fred wants to wait until he puts the finishing

Wait until you see / hear the SuperTrapp setup! It sounds incredible

and with 4 or 5 disc, it's quieter than the x design exhaust. Unreal for

a straight pipe. it's 3inches w/ 5 inch outlets and the it cost less then

700.00. Oh sh**, Johnspeed is gonna jump in the thread and demand

that I dyno this exhaust and compare it to the Miltek with 100 cell cats:D

SuperTrapp is an old Skool muscle car / motorcycle exhaust.

There are dozens of sizes and applications but it's essentially a

straight pipe with glass packs and "tunable" disc. The disc modulate

sound and back pressure. You can add several disc for daily driving and

you can remove them, all of them if you choose, and raise some hell:D

I hope the video captures the sound. We all agree, it's the best sound

we've heard on any 996 turbo! And it's a fraction of the cost.

'02996ttx50 Jul 29, 2013 03:16 PM

still don't know why ya didn't go with glasspacks. lol

lol how about "cherry bombs" We're telling our age.

Funny thing, Supertrapps have glasspacks! Amazingly quiet for straight pipes!

I'm sure at WOT sans disc, it will sound like an F16 on takeoff.

Believe it or not, when you add several disc it is actually quieter then

the x design setup I had on there!

Now if you take off all the disc and get up in the 4000 -5000 rpm range....

my neighbors would look like the mob in Frankenstein with torches and

pitch forks.

'02996ttx50 Jul 29, 2013 04:47 PM

yep, 5k and over changes everything :)

I didn't know Supertrapp made an exhaust for our Porsches. I've got a Supertrapp on my Harley and it sounds wicked badazzzz. I love the thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing your videos (of your Porsche, not the German midget stuff ;)

SuperTrapp doesn't make an exhaust for our cars!

SamboTT hooked us up with some Fabspeed flanges.:D

The 914 guys have been using SuperTrapps for years.

And why all the haters on the German midget gay rodeo clown porn?
