help 996 tt rear fin light coming on
An inspection of the spoiler cylinder coverings (under the underneath the engine compartment lid) found fluid leak sign and also fluid leak sign was spotted on the engine compartment sheet metal under these cylinder covers.
Long story short I had the spoiler hydraulic system replaced with a new one. Oh, at just under 110K miles. Cost? A bit over $2K.
You could of just done the rear wing mod for 150 bucks LOL.....
My 03 spoiler's warning light would come on when the spoiler was deployed based on speed.

This method worked for me, spoiler goes up and down with speed or button....no more warning light
Total cost
$20 for the fluids

And make the car look like it had a $150 wing on it? No thanks. I like my cars stock and to have everything functioning properly.
Ummmm! Who said anything about an 150.00 wing? It's called a 996tt wing mod or you can waste 2k at a dealer on parts.
Well, the wing no longer goes up and down and has instead of this function $150 solid wing hardware. No thanks. Keeping the car in good working order is what I prefer. And this means not applying band-aids to an important system like the spoiler.

Important system? The wing going up and down is a waste thats why most people kept the wing in one position. 2k plus labor for new hardware is a waste.
there can certainly be nothing wrong with a guy wanting his car to operate exactly and with the same parts as it had when it was purchased. he may have been able to repair his spoiler less expensively, and i have also said as much, but beyond that simple suggestion, that is where criticism of his choice should end.i also think you're wrong.. *most* people *don't* leave their wing in a *fixed* condition. well,.. people such as yourself, perhaps
personally, i think the 150 ( ahem ) "wing mod" is a helluva lot cheesier than a fully functional porsche turbo retractable spolier.want a stock fixed wing?.. buy a gt3
you made your point badly the first time upthread. driving home your point, doesn't make it any more valid

First, make complete sentences you make no sense! Secondly, tons of people on here did the mod or just put the 1.5inch spacers in. "Why waste 2k at a dealer and yes its 2k to replace the unit" Please do a research before you post because your information is way off. Thx

is that clear enough for you?
using "emoticons" to punctuate wouldn't ordinarly cause confusion as to where my sentences begin and/or end. i assure you, my sentences were all complete. i'm going to attribute your lack of understanding, to the same kind of limited capacity, black vs white thinking, that you've displayed abundantly and that makes you capable of believing a "$150 spoiler mod" is a viable alternative to restoring the spolier function to its original OEM functionality. they are not one and the same

There is no value whether your wing is stock or modded. I so far found 5 long threads on here of people doing the mod. It's the same as "hey you have a flash well now my car is not stock anymore"
This guy doesn't need a 2k replacement when it will happen again and again.

personally, i wouldn't pay 2k$ to replace the parts either since i was able to repair spoilers on two different tt's for a can of pentosin and stop leak, so the only thing it seems we agree on, is that options exist.
you were breaking his b*lls for doing what he wanted.. and that's primarily the reason i called you out. a fixed wing kit on a 996 turbo is an option of last resort for *most*, and an option i'm fairly certain i'll never avail myself of. if you think it's t*ts. good for you.
meanwhile, i have a spare $150 fixed wingkit still in the box. name your price lol

you first questioned the wisdom of his repairing it to oem spec ( when in fact, that IS the factory recommendation ). trust me on this lol. you THEN suggested he do the $150.00 wing mod! rather than repair it to oem working condition and oem parts? and went so far as to suggest it was a waste of time or didn't matter or whatever drivel you posted. so what part of what YOU SAID! do you not remember or understand!?
it's a guy just like you, that proves to me: anyone can now afford a 996tt. LOL
