I think the 996 front end is ugly, and still bothers me to look at it 6 years later. The 997 has such clean and beautiful front end, that is classic 911, which other companies have copied not vice versa. Personally I am gonna wait for the 997 tt to come out for my next car purchase.

It's funny this thread came up, because when the 996 came out SO MANY people were pissed off the headlights weren't round.

to the little-brother Boxster (heaven forbid, not even a 911).I eagerly awaited the Box with 2 yr deposit and liked those lights on that car but putting them on the 911 was sacrilege to some.......(as was water cooled, as was an engine that was not made for racing, as was getting out of racing all-together to build trucks, etc, etc but I digress
). Yep, one of my 911s is a 993, so I'm partial.....and believe the front of that car (on that car) is very agreeable.
It is funny though......after catching so much flack for so many yrs about loosing the 911 heritage & 911-look post 993, that finally, Porsche Marketing (with their finger in the wind for 7 yrs) convinced Design to go back.....some would say it's tail waging the dog, not form-following-function, yada yada.
Anyway, at the end of the day everyone's entitled to their own opin & that's what makes the world go round........My opin is, this car is where these lights belong.....yep they're 'dated', right where it should be.

I like classic Ferraris, but even Ferrari had to evolve as did Lambo. The Esprit never really evolved and looked what happened to it. The NSX is a classic in need of change. Change is not always bad.
The 911 or 997 is still a beautiful car either way. The 997 just looked to be the older of the two in the picture I viewed when showing the cars from the front.
the VW bug HAS Porsche characteristics, not the other way around.
The 997, which has 993 influences, is great.
I personally think the 993 is/was the hottest body style porsche has come up with thus far.
The 997 is new, but retro at the same time.

I agree with the CGT headlights look being better. In fact there was a pshop of it around here and a more recent real 911 with CGT style head lights. The look was great. They are prob saving that for the 2 year refresh.
