Well I’ve had a couple of days to test out my car with the IA 700 kit with larger throttle body option for a couple of days now.

Day 1

The first day I had the flash loader set to the “stock” setting. I understood this to be the setting for 91 octane. The car drove flawlessly. Boost seemed to come on much more linear than the 640 kit. The car (programming?) runs so smooth. I would get a little stutter with the 640 at times below 2000 rmp coming up from a stop. The new setup is perfect.

Day 2

I emailed Stephen in the morning before going to work to confirm that “stock” button on the flash loader was the 91 octane program. When I got home from work, he had replied that “pump” was the 700 program for 91 octane and stock was simply that (plus a bit). I had to immediately go for a drive and test it out.

The car seemed to have considerably more throttle response – like a race horse chomping at the bit to get out of the gate. And believe me, it was enjoyable when you let her out. Boost climbed considerably faster on the “pump - 91” setting. I took her on a good rip out to the airport and back on the highway. This thing goes damn fast. I would see 1.3 bar and hold 1.1 - 1.2 bar. I was expecting to be holding 1.3 bar, but maybe this is reserved for the 100 octane setting. None the less, acceleration seemed almost instantaneous and definitely effortless. Low end torque was huge. The car pulls like a bastard in all gears to redline.

Conclusion

I feel secure in knowing the new and improved fuel system (injectors, filter, pump, and lines) is up to the task of feeding all that air being pumped by these awesome turbos and transported by the new big throttle body and new aluminum intake tubes. For good measure, I also had GT2 intercoolers installed. I feel this is an extremely well engineered kit. It drives smooth as silk and produces power in a very linear fashion. I think it’s safe to say that I am done with mods… except for getting the rods done. Ceramic coating the headers, aluminum intake tubes and the turbo turbines would be nice too. Maybe getting some bigger brakes would be a good idea also.

Thanks to Stephen @ Imagine Auto & Todd @ EVO. These guys are great to work with. The fact that I have done all these mods to my precious car is a testament to the confidence I have in these guys. They are extremely knowledgeable, very responsive and dedicated to their work

Zippy,

Iwas wondering what kind of MPG to expect with the bigger injectors, throttle body, and fuel pump...how much faster does your guage drop? Also, are you running the K16 Garrett Hybrids?

Cleve,

They are the Garrett T04 dual ball bearing monster's!

From the PES website:

We chose custom Garrett T04B dual ball bearing turbos for this application. These turbos utilize the highest turbo technology available. They are also water cooled (factory turbos are not). Since the new Garrett turbos have completely different fittings/flanges, everything must be custom fabricated.

Twin Garrettâ„¢ T04B dual ball bearing turbos with proprietary bearing housings
Twin stainless steel headers with external wastegates
Twin Tialâ„¢ billet external wastegates
High flow stainless steel exhaust with German 100 cell catalysts
6 custom high flow fuel injectors
Custom billet mass air flow sensor
Custom GIAC ECU tuning
Stainless/braided coolant lines/fittings to turbos
Oil lines/fittings
Electronic boost control system

My car starts with that then you have to add the Carillo Rods, head studs, etc.. EVO air inlet tubes, EVO V-Flow intake, EVO boost hoses and you have some kind of Stage 5 ++ Mongrel!

It is definately more of an Autobahn Crusher than stoplight to stoplight racer.

I just finished the engine break in and I am now breaking in the new turbos. GIAC started creating the new program yesterday with Dan's car and they are continuing today. I may have preliminary dyno numbers later today.

Meanwhile, my new exhaust is being fabricated. It is proving VERY difficult to squeeze 3 in tubing into the tight quarters, but my guy is confident he can get it done. We are awaiting a custom made 3 in radius bend which is being done by Burns Stainless. I am hopeful that this will come together early next week. I am confident that this new exhaust will create more power than anything currently available off the shelf (except straight pipes).

We are getting close.

Craig

Cleve - Yes. I have the K16 Garrett Hybrids. I was going to post my observations of MPG with the new set up. I used to get around 12.5 MPG with the 640 kit. I am getting approximately 15 MPG with the 700 kit. This is predominately (90%) city driving. Soo... 1.5 MPG better economy with gas at $2.00/gallon, the 700 upgrade will pay for itself in 400 years!

Thanks for the update. ...you have sold me on this kit now. The meet is the Western Canada and Pacific Northwest Porsche club held in Whistler from Aug 26 to Aug 28th. My wife Cathy and I are going... We are taking the back road to Whistler through (Spences Bridge) to Duffy Lake road rather than going through Vancouver. That road is way more fun to drive than going through rush hour hell.

Here is the link. If you can make it that would be great, I am sure your car would be totally unique...not only that we can down a few cold ones!

Hey Ben! If i was you I would get 700 kit which primarily consists of fuel system upgrades over the 640 kit. The 700 fuel system upgrades seem to really make sense balancing the huge air flow produced by the Garrett K16 Hybrid turbos.

The Whistler meet sounds link a blast. What a drive that would be! I'm not going to be able to make it this year but will shoot to do so next summer. Have a great time!

Thanks Craig. I'm very happy with it. It feels very balanced and hopefully, I can stay satisfied for a long time. I can't wait to see how your savage beast performs when the new programming is done!

Sounds like 2.5 MPG better! Must mean that the whole system is more efficient, which is good because I thought I would have to add an electric motor so I wouldn't feel guilty about wasting natural resources.
