I remember reading about this a while back. There is a specific name for the type of tranny setup. A clutchless paddle shifter setup or something? I think that it starts with a "K"?
Does anyone remember?

I heard it wouldn't come on the first series of the 997TT, but only a bit later. I hope that's wrong!

Guys,
Sorry thats all the info I have. Also, speaking the rep, he says that chances are with the small allocations we wont be seeing these cars for at least a year and half. They are going to be very rare for a while.

Are you thinking of the PDK (Porsche Doppler-Kupplung)? That is not clutchless, but rather, a dual clutch setup. It was developed by Porsche and used on the 956 but did not continue forward.

Thanks for the info.
Any idea how fast the DSG shifts? Tip is 200ms, F1 by Ferrari is 150ms, SMG is 80ms. Interesting to see how fast the DSG is and if it's smooth. Has Audi rolled out DSG in production model cars? Anyone driven DSG?
I was amazed at SMG's shifting speed. With a little practice, you can get it as smooth as a manual.

DSG will be used in the Veyron (it can take a bit of torque). Bscher says it will be as quick as a Formula1. Which makes sense, since all it has to do is release a clutch (the gear change is already done).
PDK should be just as good.
The manual clutch and shifters are living their last years ...

let the press and mag rags rave over the car and how it's the best in the world and then open the floodgates on production.
Sounds like perfect timing for me. That'll give me time to finish residency and fellowship and pick up a 1 year used low mileage '08 model in late '08. I'm hoping they'll be running in the $110k range by then with plenty of tuning options available (assuming an MSRP in the $140k range).
Attn: Eric in Sweden!!!
My friend Eric who I just saw in Stockholm just took delivery of an Audi with this double clutch setup. He told me then that he was told that Porsche was going to put this setup in 997TT. Eric would you give us some feedback as to how you like it thus far?
Also, will 6 speed 996TT prices firm up because it may be the end of an era?

Pretty disappointing across the board. GT3 goes from 375 to 400 hp, meanwhile the Z06 goes from 405 to 500 hp. Unless they drop about 300 lbs. off this car their is no point (knowing the trend it probably will gain weight). Even at the rumored 420 hp, they would have had ground to make up. 500 hp is the minimum to compete in todays "high-end" car category. Watch these things sell like dogs after the initial rush.

When you say paddle shift, are we also taking no torque converter.

Yes it worth dumping it for the "VW Bug headlights" 997TT... atleast then your 996TT wont look like the original boxter front end
