Air Intakes

I noticed their is very little talk about air intakes for the Twin. Meridian sells one that looks very nice. Are their any performance improvements with this or any other unit?

Which unit is it? I doubt they make their own since very few do and it's probably bought from either EVO, Gemballa, GruppeM (K&N), Protomotive or Scargo? I don't think anyone else makes em.

I think somebody mentioned a 17hp gain from the GruppeM one once. My guess is you'll get some nice whooshy sound too.

Has anyone tried the Groupe M?? A few of my buddies have them on their BMW M3's and they are really nice and very good quality...is that 17HP claim true?? The unit costs just under $2000...trying to decide if it is worth it.....they are available in either Kevlar or Carbon Fiber...

Evan buddy come on now, how can you expect to get reZpekt unless you go CF. Sheesh!

As for the "claim". I don't remember who said it, maybe it was Oak, in which case I wouldn't doubt the "claim". Don't quote me though because it was on rennlist and a long time ago too...

sharkster,

I understood sld7 to be inquiring about the air box (as what holds the air filter element) versus the air intake tube. Maybe I misunderstood.

If he was talking about the air intake tube, the S Car Go unit offers real power increases.

CJV I got confused there too... At first I thought he meant an intake plenum like you have then I realized it was the air-box itself. I think Oak has the GruppeM one and other than that I don't know who makes another box.

If we can get an extra 17 horses and have the car more responsive.......

The Meridian set up just looks cool.

I am surprised TechArt does not make one? They could probably charge $3,000, no?

Just to let you know, the Meridian one is the Gruppe M that we are talking about (just took a look).
Here is their site if you want more info...

And a direct link to the turbo one:

I am thinking about this upgrade, but waiting for someone else to give me the thumbs up, and my dad to take me off "buyer hold"

The Gruppe M Intake is nice, however I doubt you would obtain any additional power:

I had the Gruppe M intake on my M5. It looked really impressive and sounded nice, but IMHO didn't really make that much difference.

Unless you adjust the ECU it won't make a big difference will it? Or will the ECU automatically add more fuel if it detects more air?

Yeah those air boxes look sick...They even have one for my NA GT3...I was under the impression that the ecu automatically adjusts engine management for increased air flow...Would like to know if more gas is offered up to the motor because of this...

I wonder what the sound difference would be and if there is any improvement in throttle response even though any hp increase would be negligible at best.

Just dying to dole out $1,650 for one. It would need to do something though to make me spring for it...Any input???
