Short story, I sold my 996tt with AWE tuning to a good friend. Friggin' car always ran perfect and never threw a code. Of course, <2 weeks it throws a code that I isolated to the MAF. Not uncommon. I ordered a new 996-606-124-00. I cleaned the MAF once and IIRC there was a torx type screw with a security post. Am I remembering this correctly or was it just a torx head? At any rate, long story to a short question, do I need a special tool to remove the screws for the MAF? Thanks.

mine came with security torx, i.e., with the pin in the center.

Sears sells several screwdriver kits with interchangeable bits that do the trick

 

it's the t20 torx "security" driver. the one with the hole in the center. normal t20 never worked for me.

 

You can go to home depot or Lowes and buy a bit set for about ~20 bucks that have all the security torx bit and about 30 other bits you can keep for just about everything else you need
