PROBLEM SOLVED!! Thanks for all the responses. Turns out this part (locking ring) is on the 996 and boxster but is not shown on the turbo diagram. Is is listed at the bottom of page in turbo brake vacuum line in undercarrage. The part# is 99923051240

That's awesome - I was told by Porsche that I had to buy the complete brake vacuum line for that c-clip - ridiculous.

Another satisfied 6speed user! Wish I found this thread before I ordered the full vacuum line! Luckily the dealer didn't make me pay for it since it didn't include the magic clip!

Its a safety clip, i lost mine and drove without one for ages, if anyone has ever tried to get the servo hose apart you will know what I mean, but I ordered a bag of them for customer cars !!!!

Safety Clip

Thanks and I know that now. It just fills the gap between the socket male end and the female end of the undercarriage vacuum line. You can't get your fingernail or screwdriver in there to pull the connection apart with the clip in place. It's sole purpose is to prevent someone from accidentally pulling the line apart while working on the engine. I talked to the master mechanic at the local Porshche dealer and he told me how he dropped one once, spent an hour looking for it. Now they're very careful when removing the clip. He said tons of cars come in with them missing. I gave them the part number and told them to stock up but I think that advice fell on deaf ears. Thanks for reinforcing it's purely a safety issue, good to know its not really necessary.

I was told that Porsche didnt intend to ever fit one but their legal dept insisted as a safety precaution in case the almost impossible ever happened! donrt know if its true or not.

That's funny. Probably only on U.S. Cars! Needless to say there's quite a bit of vacuum holding that connection together anyways. Lesson learned.
