Rear Spoiler auto retreat timing changes
Rear Spoiler auto retreat timing changes
Is there any way to change the timing on the spoiler retreat?
I just finished rebuilding the spoiler motor and refilled the lines. It works great. the spoiler failure signal still goes off every time, and the car retreats the spoiler after 15 seconds.
I believe that the system may fail because of the constant movement of the rams. After all it is very easy to reach 75mph, even on city streets.
I would like to change the timing on the spoiler return to more than just 15 seconds. Ideally I would like it to stay up until I turn the car off.
If you know how to reprogram this function please share.

If you are reaching 75mph on city streets you got a bigger worry than worrying about premature spoiler failure from the deployment.
Porsche has selected the deployment speed probably -- one has to assume -- some consideration for the car's aerodynamic needs at 75mph and beyond.
For a month or two I drove my 03 Turbo with the spoiler deactivated (the cylinders were leaking) and occasionally I exceeded 75mph and of course the spoiler stayed down. The car did not fly off the road.
But I would not, could not offer this as proof there is no risk in delaying the spoiler deployment.
I'd say you are worrying too much about the spoiler. The one in my car lasted over 110K miles -- and my usage (which does *not* involve hitting 75mph on city streets) has the thing going up and down like a yoyo -- and the techs tell me when replaced the units never come back so I'm expecting to get even better life out of the replacement spoiler system.

My interest was not in delaying the deployment. I would like to delay the return of the deployed spoiler. I would like to keep the spoiler up for longer period after it is deployed. Just for looks. I agree that there is no need for the spoiler function below 75mph. But it does look better with the spoiler deployed.
But then I wonder what is the function of the spoiler switch that allows to deploy and return the spoiler. When I press it the spoiler stays up for 15 seconds before returning.
You make a very good point about the spoiler mechanism being resilient by operating like a yoyo for 110K miles. Problem is mine has only 27K miles on it and it already broke once.
In the suburbs of Los Angeles there are many roads of over 1/2 mile with no housing or pedestrian traffic, so it makes it very easy to reach 75mph and stop before the next light.
