Maintenance ?

Hi Guys,

I own a 2001 996TT 6spd w/ 16k miles on the clock, I purchased it with 5,500 miles about 6 years ago. Since owning the car I have done three Mobil 1 oil changes.

I'm about to get the brake fluid flushed, but wanted to know what other fluids I might consider changing, if someone could chime in and make some recommendations it would be very much appreciated. The dealership told me the coolant is lifetime and no need to swap, is this true? MB used to state this with their transmission fluid until it came back to bite them.

Thank you.

Thank you.
exactly. and that isn't really so re: coolant either. you're right to be circumspect. all fluids should be added to or changed as needed. though with the low miles on your car, coolant wouldn't be that great a concern at least not at this stage of the cars life. though your expansion tank could yellow and crack merely from age, then you're messing with coolant. so much for "life time fill" lol but with a low mileage car, one could safely follow porsche service intervals since they change stuff that hasn't necessarily been *used* based upon timeline, and not miles per se. i would look at fluid change frequencies based upon miles travelled, rather than time elapsed though.

Brake fluid should be changed every 2nd year and oil every year according to several of the independent shops in our area. Even with low mileage cars per year cars.
