Classic Newbie Q - Model Differences - '01, '02, '03

Hey Folks,

I have been lurking for a short while. I am at the beginning of my hunt for a Turbo. Currently driving an '01 M5. Love it but it just feels too big. Got the itch to return to a Porsche and have never owned a Turbo. Now is the time.

Don't flame me for a simple question....but I have been flipping through the billboard and haven't seen it specifically discussed. Also a search is not turning up the answer (easily).

What are the main differences between the '01, '02 & '03 Turbo model years? Any one year more prone to a maintenance issue that got fixed the next year? Are they all the same hp? Suspension? Braking capability? etc. I understand that there will be differences in time left on a warranty (I plan to buy an aftermkt warranty).

Yes, I could spend a bit more time here flipping through the board and running searches or looking on other sites for these answers....but figured I would come to the experts first and lob out a newbie question.

Be easy on me.

Max

02 has updates like glovebox, rainsensing wipers couple other things. Really nice to have a glovebox! Not sure if 03 made any other updates. Engine, suspension etc all the same. Oh yeah early 01's did not have the hollow spoke wheels.

Good luck!

´03

The ´03 has the PCM II system, with a "widescreen" display, if it means anything to you. It also utilizes the MOST system, which makes any stereo and other electronic upgrades notoriously difficult.

Chordate is infamous around these parts
01: Bumperettes=Ugly
Shiny Black Dials=Too Flashy
Old audio system=horrible
PCMI=Bad navigation system
No hollow spoke wheels=Heavy
02: No Bumperettes=Thank God
Flat Black Dials=They look better
Bose Sound System=A lot better (10 speakers, and 2 subs)
PCMI=Still sucks
Cup Holder=Nice, but nobody has drinks in my car
Glove Compartment=Nice add on
Rain Sensor=Nice add on
X50=Only 60 '02s have them (that is what I have heard)
03: PCMII=Fianaly, a good nav system
MOST=Yes, a PIA to upgrade, but the fiber optic system sounds better
replaced single CD player=A little better
04:Turbo Script in tach=very cool
PCMII Standard=nice, but MSRP goes up because of this, and there is no delete option

I think I got it all, if it were up to me, I would not get an '01
