Recently we made some changes to the current set up. Currently the car is a 3.8L build running C16 on HTA3586's. Waste gates are around 14psi and the car makes about 600-625hp max (7500rpm) on gates alone. We replaced the ignition and wiring with the M&W unit. We also had some more fuel pressure to give and bumped that a tad and re-tuned on the existing GT3 ECU. My torque numbers were usually pretty low (700-800ftlbs) and is why my STOCK transmission has been holding up so well (RWD converted). The new adjustments not only increased torque and HP but we now make power much earlier in the curve.

For example, I used to make 500whp/550tq at 4500rpm at 26PSI. Now, the car makes 790whp/930tq at 4500rpm at a mid boost level of 26PSI. High boost will be 35-36PSI (never dyno'd on high boost). Doing the math, I'm well over 1000whp/1000ftlbs on high boost (which is all I ever run anymore :D).

After getting the car back, I was excited to feel the new power at the track rental. On the way to the track, on the first small pull in 3rd gear, the trans gave up! Tore every tooth off of third gear! So, the trans went to Bill Rader Motorsports in Las Vegas. And with help from Guard Transmission, he put together a monster gear box. Includes all new gears 1-6. GT2RS main shaft with 1-2nd gear. Straight cut 3-5 gears. All new steel gear under bearings, GT3 shift lever, Billet LSD housing and Guard internals and Billet side cover. Pics of before and after:

Thats a work of art.........

Todd, I'm jealous! Anticipating BHT's return is nearly, ok maybe not close :), as much as getting mine back on the street. I call dibs for shotgun on the first pull, on HIGH boost. Did you keep the same gearing?

March will be epic fun.

beautiful!

Speechless!!

Wow, Best tranny build that I have seen. GOOD LUCK Todd.

nice build. why not replace the retaining plate with a forged GT3/2 RS one?

did you damage center case? i broke my tranny in the exact same way and center case had hairline cracks and retaining plate was just a little deformed to.

yup

post before/after dynos

I saw the low boost dyno. It made a little over 450 horsepower at 6,500 RPMS.....Third gear must have failed from faulty QC in manufacturing.

Fadi 02-20-2014 01:28 PM

So 290whp and 370tq difference from tuning and fueling only ? that's huge !!! congrats anyway but i'd like to know more if you wish to share, also how do you know the max boost of the engine being 35-36psi and not more or less ? thanks

also, do you know if mckenzie heads are flowing more than gt3s ?

It doesnt happen overnight and i dont think it was a QC issue, those usually come up ealy on into the ownership of a car. A lot of guys here have broken 3 gear, its a "weak" point in our trans. Even with that said how many other trannies on the market can hold 1000whp. I beat on mine for years before it broke so did BHT.

Whereitsat 02-20-2014 01:36 PM

I'm just poking fun that the failure couldn't have been from the power. I understand 3rd is the weak cog in the machine.

What do the straight cut gears sound like at 6k rpm? I bet it's awesome.
