Yes, all races had to start very close to 65 (radar monitored) You will red light if you are not within 1/2 car of your opponent.

Just to understand. Could both cars have a legal run if they both started at 75mph and we dead even at the start ? (certainly producing a higher top speed at the end)

No. Needed to be at 65.
