SpeedTech visits the Porsche Factory

Spent today at the Porsche factory! Nice time and very interesting, but no cameras allowed in the actual factory, so pictures are limited...

Hey, Alexei! Yea, it's been great - We are heading for Zell am See, Austria tomorrow for a visit to Porsche Design Studios and some skiiing in the Alps...

Can anyone from the public do these tours? Do you have to schedule them in advance?

Yes you have to reserve in advance but if you are lucky like I was two people did not show up and I was able to get in the group! The tour start at 10:00 a.m. and you have to wait in the lobby besides the ticket counter until they start taking the attendance…

I have been on the factory tour some years ago and it was fantastic. From the engine building and testing rooms to the beer vending machines for workes, to the automated parts delivery trains, paint booth and handmade upholstry shop. It really was a great experience, when I went the big museum was not complete yet and their museum was rather tiny especialy compared to Benz museum. I hear the new museum is amazing. Unfortunately no pictures so you look carefully and hang on to the memories

Hmm...I just came back from Costa Rica and some of the establishments there would not let us take pictures either,, the memories will stick though..

I seem to recall an experience like that in Thailand. My memory is getting fuzzy now after all these years...

I went there when I was 15 years old, my dad took me to the Benz, Porsche, BMW factory tours.. Unforgettable trip! I am 24 now.

Winfried, it looks like a fantastic work atmosphere - very low key and enjoyable work conditions. It's a small, specialty factory - they produce about 200 cars per day, which is a lot of cars, but not when you compare it to Toyota, etc.

I loved seeing how my car was built - I could just imagine the brand new speed yellow body on the line being fitted with motor, interior panels, dash, etc.

Great time!
