5 years later, 996TT prices the same?
in 2009 just before I got married I was in the hunt for a 2001 996TT, I recall prices back then were around $40-50k for a clean TT. now, 5 years later my search begins again, and it seems like these things have held their values incredibly well. pricing still seems to be at $40-50k for a clean 996TT, but with significantly more miles and age, thus an increase in relative value, any insight here?

I would use search the price point has been discussed often. There are some nice cars for sale here and on Rennlist . I may put mine up soon 2001 13,200 mile midnight/graphite well maintained 48.5k obo.
I think the bottom hit around '09-'10 in the pit of the recession. That's when I sold my C2 996 and started my search for a Turbo. The "haves" were looking to dump depreciating assets with the uncertainty of the future. There were lot's of great buys. I remember a desperate Turbo owner in Las Vegas that offered to fly to SLC in his private plane, pick me up and fly me to see his car. If I didn't want to buy it he'd fly me home. I did have a PPI and it was suggested to have about $1300 in work to make it perfect. He was asking $28K for an '05 Turbo S Cabriolet with 99K miles. This seems like a steal now. Another local car '02 Coupe 37K miles, $31.5K PSS9, Tune, passed PPI at P-dealer but they recommended a cleaner more pristine example. Yup, lots of terrific deals in '09. Actually, I think the prices are higher now for the same cars even though they are older. I think I could get substantially more than I paid for my car now if I was to sell.
I buy a lot of cars and you can ask what ever you want for a them. What they actually sell for are a different thing.
I still see good 996TT turbos in the mid to upper 30's all day with sub 75K miles. Manual coupes in good colors will bring a premium but everything else is not moving quickly at any price.

996 tt is the entry level to the fast P cars and can be modded as monsters just pick the right builder/tuner. There's plenty to be had in good condition both stock and modded, good luck with your search.

They have definitely levelled off and should likely remain in this ballpark for a while.
some people suggest the prices are going up, though debatable. The nice thing about the 996tt is its generally a more "raw" experience than the later versions. Seems A LOT of cars in the same age bracket have that blend of old school feel with newer technology.
and after that the cars are increasingly becoming more disconnected. Besides being great performance bargains, I would think that extra feel will help keep its value steady where its at. that is a desirable thing to have to enthusiasts. dat feel! I think that negates any water cooled malarkey.
Will they go up like 964s et al? Not likely but who cares. Keep it clean and it should hold its value at this point, even with more miles. Id argue a car thats in top maintenance shape with some mileage is worth more than an low mileage car with next to zero maintenance.

Delivery of bumblebee in July (the wait is killing me). Via previous dealer, connected with 2 previous owners on mother's day weekend. Superb guys requesting occassional visitations. High level: 2001, listing price $50k, 55kmiles, very modded (Fabspeed, GIAC flash tuner, killer electronics), CF interior, radar, iforged, and speed yellow. I'm getting it less than ticket price as a returning customer but a savings considering work already done to it.
Thats because they have problems and are not in the best shape. Prices have actually come up a little. Listing prices have gone up also.
Please find me an 04-05 in the 30's, let alone 40 flat or even for sale in general. Sure you can find a **** box 01 for cheap but they usually have a lot of issues.
I notice the 01-02 aren't holding their prices that well and 04-05 is a different story especially the 04-05 which saw limited build quantity and some changes for the better.
Its all relative, just because you see a ****box sell cheap doesn't mean thats the median and certain years matter.
Correct..........
