I have no idea. Only bearings I've shredded have been in the trans. I sure hope i never author a thread like this.

they're tough, no doubt. but "bulletproof"? is a misnomer.

In the grand scheme of most cars they seem to be bulletproof, but as long as there is moving parts, anything can and will break

Ouch...That had to be one of the hardest videos to watch, I have only taken my car to the track once and totally enjoyed it hope I never see that...Good luck with the repairs...

Did this get rectified in the 02-05 models?

OP, my sympathies for your loss...keep us posted on what you find out.

 

There are a couple of engines on eBay that came out of later model cars. There are even a couple of X50 engines! Will an '02-'05 engine bolt right into my '01 without changing the DME? When I did engine swaps in my Boxster, I always stayed with the same model year for simplicity. Are there other issues involved in a swap that I should be aware of?
