997tt tranny in 996tt

Mates

My tranny needs a rebuild on my 2001 996tt making over 1100awhp. Can I install a 997tt tranny? Will I need to make any modifications? What amount of power will a 997tt tranny hold?

Thanks

Jag

997 tranny is stronger than a 996 tranny, the only thing you would need to do is run a 997 wheel size set up (which you probably already do) because gears 2-6 are shorter on the 997 than 996. (because 997 runs a taller wheel to offset the shorter gearing).
i have a complete 997 turbo tranny that i removed from my car a year ago. if youre interested, PM me..

Yea I think you are wasting your money at that power and TQ level running a stock 997 turbo gear box instead of something stronger. Yes 997 gears are better then 996tt gears somewhat but not compared to GT2RS gears, Guard......etc.

yup these guys are right. if its just your gears that are damaged, you can get a complete set of gt2 gears for 3500-ish.

Are we saying that 997 GT2 internals....(let's say gears 1/2/3, mainshaft +3) can not go in a 996TTgearbox?
