Very basic question re: oil changes

Can anyone here tell me which oil would be best for me to add to my 2001 TT? Any convenient places to get it? IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢m in NY for the weather is in the 70s. Also, after how many miles should I get an oil change?

3000 to 5000 miles. 7000 if you believe every thing your told...
