fuel filter line problem made worse?

about a week ago the return line hose for the fuel filter failed. I managed to cut what I had hoped was the hole near the plastic u connector and put on a temporary clamp on it and got home, but barely.
I bought a replacement 5/16 line and after many hours managed to remove the hose from back of the fuel filter. I got the hose off and loosed the clamp holding the fuel filter in, but I couldn't get the fuel filter back in, so I removed the outflow hose which is in the front of the filter. it was pretty hard to do, which should have been my first sign. Second sign (in retrospect) was that there was no clamp on the outflow line.
after it cam off I saw that the metal nozzel was covered with some black plastic and then I looked inside the line and saw the same black plastic.
so what I'm look at appears to be a hose within a hose.
I don't think I can get to where the outflow hose terminates.
I could put a clamp on the connector, but I'm thinking the inner plastic hose is broken, it won't hold.
if I"m right, how is a fuel filter replaced?
seems like I may have taken a couple steps backward and gone beyond what I can do.
OTOH, if I can just clamp it, I can put it all back and be done.

Without trying to be harsh my suggestion is to take the car to a good shop and get the car repaired correctly as fuel is nothing to mess with= fire. It seems your a little over your head with this repair.

anything more practical and positive from someone else?
having problems getting the car towed. I was trying to get it running to get it to a shop. tow hook doesn't catch threads and AAA won't tow car because it is lowered and has a GT2 body kit.

Sorry you took it as negative do a search on fuel filter replacement and diys come up. Hose clamps are rarely used with high pressure fuel systems. Don't want to see you hurt or car in flames. I would try another towing company I have flat bedded many low cars.

The line is fubar'ed.. The outer hose is just a jacket to protect the inner line. The other side of that hose goes to the fuel rail. Here is the partnumber for the line you need 996 110 315 73. I would think if you got this far you should be able to swap a fuel line. I would give you one if I had it, I cut them up and use the rail end to make a -6AN adapter out of it.

thanks, that's what I thought as soon as I saw it. the fuel filter outflow line connecting to whatever it connects to is not visible from the top of the engine. I can feel where it goes but I don't see how I can unscrew or remove it without seeing it. I have a mechanic's mirror and I guess I'll try that.
If it's removable by a mechanic with a good pair of hands. I might try to get the part and see if someone can help me.
If I can't do that, I'll try to find another tow company but the tow guy made me nervous since he said between the car being lowered and the very low bumper guard, he thought he'd ruin the bumper guard. I've only got a few inches clearance. pretty aggravating especially the part of making it alot worse.

so I could feel where it comes in. I think I could get a socket on it.
you know off hand what's the size?
If I can't do it, I think I could probably get someone to my house to do it.
now that I got the fuel filter out, seems not crazy hard to put it back.
thanks for the wise words. I'll order the part and see if I can do it.

hard part to get. none in north america. any preferred dealer for ordering? I'm in northern cal. nielo is close but they're always much higher than anyone else.
do they drop ship parts to the US customer or do they have to go to the dealer first?

There are dealers like suncoast and sunset etc that discount and venders can get the part for you cheaper than retail. I would think someone here would have a good used hose and you can get new later..

sonnen outside san francisco had a pretty good deal. 179 list online price 151 plus tax and 20 bucks for expedited shipping from germany. there are only 59 new in germany, none at any porsche dealer in the US according to Niello.
I'm feeling better about this. seems like I can get wrench on it even blind.

another question: my original problem was that the fuel filter inflow hose failed. I managed to cut the line beyond the main hole to get it back to my house. it held for most of the way. I removed the hose and it seems like a standard 5/16 rubber pressurized fuel line. I picked up one that looked identical at O reilly and and it fit fine. not made specifically for porsche, any reason not to use it?

There should be no rubber fuel hose on anything if your car is stock. the feed line to the filter comes with the filter when you buy it. All the rubber fuel line you see in the engine bay is just a rubber jacket over the plastic fuel line.

Without seeing it in person its hard to tell what you have. I would replace it with stock parts if possible and pay the expedited delivery costs. Get a new filter with line as Tim mentioned also. This is like I said if your fuel system is stock= if not you may have some set up that is better redone.
