Shop wants to replace the fuel filter

I just had my coils and plugs changed. Car has 11,000 miles but an 01. Now they said it would be beneficial to replace the fuel filter just due to sediment and gas sitting in the tank so long over the years. It runs just under $200 installed so its not much but just confirming it would be either necessary or smart move.

My car threw some codes after the coil and plug change but found out it was O2 sensor related since I ran some high octane fuel in the tank just to clean out the system. It seems after roughly 30 miles the O2 sensors adjusted and the check engine/system workbook lights went off.

I am just trying to get the car to run solid before my tune and exhaust gets put on.

Drive it and log it and see what the performance is like, especially if you can drive it often

If that car sat for any long period of time, then definitely replace the filter. I'd look into injector cleaning as well.

+1 do it especially with our gas out west. maxing out stock turbo's gets close to maxing out the stock fuel system as well so it can only help.

Just had my 03 Turbo in for oil/filter service, front brakes, plugs and the fuel filter was nearly due so I had it changed. I would have had it changed even it if was not nearly due. Tech pointed out the Turbo does through a lot of fuel, and with the rather small filter there's not much extra volume so as the filter catches stuff it can interfere with flow through the filter.

One doesn't want to lean out a Turbo due to a restrictive filter (or for any other reason) when the turbos are making boost or really at any other time either.

So you got a CEL, ran some hi octane and after a while the light went off??? "O2 sensor related" and "O2 sensors adjusted" doesnt make sense- O2 sensors dont adjust. high octane fuel doesn't cause CELs.

You need to read codes and understand what codes were/are present. Logging parameters will let you know you have a solid baseline prior to a tune. just not having CELs is not, IMO, 'running solid'.

DME has protection against this, should be a non-issue. You dont want to lean out a Turbo due to a bad pump. You dont want to lean out a turbo due to a split fuel hose...there is a whole litany of 'you dont want to lean out a turbo' events, which is why the DME protects against that....
