MAF sensor cost and can I DIY?
^^. yep.
the bosch part 124.00 IS the oem part. so if that's what you took out?...
most people i know, myself included had determined that the oiled filters are not worth the minimal gains that one may or may not enjoy by using them. i used to have a bmc.. and i used to have maf issues.
i now only use the paper mahle filter for 17$. i change it at will whenever i see it looking like it should be changed. no muss no fuss and i no longer have any maf issues.
an old dirty panel bmc filter in need of cleaning is quite the sight to behold.

part# 124.00 bosch is oem.
Thats crazy since they quoted me $680 with the Bosch part and almost $1200 for the Porsche replacement!! And they are the same?? I think they see $$ from everyone, but unfortunately I wasn't born from money and work for mine.

but i hear you. if we had money? we'd all be in the 991 turbo forum lol.
find a good indie, stay away from dealers ANYtime you can... and keep reading
I had my coils and plugs changed and now I am being told the MAF is bad and Porsche wants $680 for the Bosche one and about $1200 for the OEM one. This seems insane. What is the going rate for one and can I do this myself?
dealers routinely lie, and fraud in our society is no longer isolated, but moreso "business as usual" and endemic. i'm used to it by now. basically, everyone lies

.Finding a good indie and reading the forums is great, and DIYing, even better. I bought my car 2 months ago and have already saved myself significant $ by addressing a couple issues on my own.
For instance, my CEL came on one night and car was bogging a bit. I contemplated bringing it to the shop but decided to get a code scanner for $60 at autozone and pulled codes P1133 and P1126. After some forum research I diagnosed it as the MAF, bought some $8 MAF cleaner, cleaned the MAF, and no codes in the past 2k miles. This would have cost a fortune at the dealer and honestly I'm not too confident it would have been properly diagnosed in the first place. I'll probably replace the MAF in the spring but will leave it as is for now.
i agree.. even if the maf is among the few things i can actually r&r myself
but it is good to arm yourself with as much info about these cars as you can. particularly if you're stuck with having few options other than dealerships for service.
i have found, the more you *know*, the less likely you are the get screwed.
