I just called Koby Motors and they are a bit more expensive at $450 but they seem to run the whole gamut of test including compression.
BUT Texas-German Autohaus (Sealy) was only $127. They said they will preform additional tests if more is needed.

Seem like pretty standup guys!

Thanks again guys!! These forums rock.

Yeah its truly unfortunate. The person doing the inspection is not supposed to predict the future. Oh well. The car is hopefully going in today to get the PPI. I will let you guys know my experiences afterward. So far everything has gone well!

Yeah, Koby will take very detailed pictures, etc. for guys out of town. Since I live in Houston, I just showed up during the PPI and had a personal walkthrough with the car that ended up being $125 or so since they didn't have to do much documentation. Texas-German Autohaus in Sealy, TX? I haven't heard of that, but Mike Callas' shop is called Rennsport Porsche Works.

exactly, and why they wouldn't be responsible if the advice "you" paid them for looking at a car, turned out to be lousy! it all reads as if you are doing your "due diligence" and good luck! as your post suggests, all an "inspection" is, is a potential buyer giving money to someone with presumably more knowledge about the car, what to look for ( or not ) and that's about it.

there is no guarantee, implied or otherwise, and certainly no liability lol

Agreed!

So the data came back and after going through a few things with this buyer (who ended up being very helpful) it turns out the car is not an X50 package car like the owner said/thought. Also the PPI revealed a tap noise inside the transmission, and a clutch that was in need of replacement. Blown engine mounts and a few other minor things.

I probably would have pursued this car but it just seems like one thing after the next. The owner mentioned the tapping is the lwfw. Which I understand but the transmission noise plus the need for a new clutch and any other items that were unknown have turned me off on this specific car. Which is a bummer because I thought it was a very well priced car.

Oh well... anyone have a Turbo they want to sell?!?
