a dream?
Is it wrong to think that owning a 996tt will not require constant maintenance ? what happened to german engineering ? maybe a clutch every 30k and change oil every 5k. Is that to high of expectation's?
If you leave it stock and don't beat on it your chances are higher but its a car and one can never predict the future. Regular upkeep with brake/coolant flushes etc is the key to trouble free driving.
Everyone will be different depending on the mileage and care it's had prior to your ownership (like any used car). Personally mine hasn't needed anything other than oil changes in 2 years of ownership.
But the plugs and coilpacks had been done right before I purchased it (still not an expensive thing to do and pretty common maintenance)
If you're using the clutch up in 30k you don't know how to drive a clutch or you're an idiot. Mines on the original clutch with no signs of slippage at 51k miles. Many have gotten 100k out of the original clutch.

if you buy the car new and leave it 100% oem then yes you can expect that. buy a 10 yr old car and your going to spend money to get it proper then money to maintain then more money to personalize and or mod it.
Did you have a maintenance history when you purchased or ppi done? How many owners and miles?
This is the problem with buying used cars, you never know how the previous owners treated it.
I've seen people in late model cars that don't think about changing oil, brakes, fluids, tires even when leasing. That's why dealers are offering these "free maintenance" packages on new car purchases/leases, its actually cheaper for them when they have to resell the car on trade in or lease end.

I have 175,000 km on my car and I had 40% left on my clutch when I did my GT2 slave switch. You shouldn't have to replace your clutch every 30K miles! ...But like any car, some things will wear, corrode, fail - it's luck of the draw that determines how well you fair.
Nothing happened to engineering. Its people who owned them before us and never put a dime in it. Car got cheaper way cheaper what it used to cost new. And we have to take care of the maintanace so the car runs like!it used to. My clutch was slipping 2 days after owning the car i went aftermarket clutch.

in order to keep this car in top shape, it will just cost annually. whether it's window regulators or clutch replacements or... the list goes on. the only folks that are not spending annually on preventative maintenance and repairs and replacement of 10-14 year old parts are guys that have them primarily sit in their garage. not that there is anything wrong in that? it's just a helluva lot cheaper than to drive it daily. sh*t breaks is all I'm saying if you push the car regularly. THEN comes the never ending add on's/mods. etc.
someone said it best also when they said "what part of modding the car did you think wouldn't be expensive? the modding part?.. or the porsche part"

There are areas that have higher probability of breakdown. If you drive it, even normally, these problematic items will break down eventually. If the prior owner didn't shell out for it, you will, unless you drive only to church and back every Sunday and don't put any miles on it.
if you dont drive the car, why would you even own it, I dont get it, I understand its a Porsche some people love to put low millage on their toys - later on you see for sale add. Maybe if you collect sports cars.

also if you beat the crap out of it, thats another thing.
Same here, Sun, Rain, Or snow! I drive it everyday. I will never ever own a car that will sit in my garage and be only for weekends, but I dont wanna go offtopic here.
10 plus year old cars need maintenance... what do you expect... an old vacuum hoses be it from GM or Porsche will eventually blow and or rupture... don't expect miracles just because its a P car... it is 10 years old...
