Problems selling my 996TT....

So, I have tried selling my 996TT about 10 times and have reneged each time. I think I have a car I truly love and find it nearly irreplaceable regardless of money. For my needs it has 4 seats, has 550hp, can be tracked, is beyond modifiable, looks fantastic and has curb appeal (not the most important thing but lets face it, it does). And while it is a little complicated it is nothing compared to the drive-by-wire cars out now with active everything. So, maybe this car stays around and can actually outlast any other car I have owned. Just my thoughts of the day.

I couldn't agree more. I just posted mine for sale and then changed my mind. The car to me is worth so much more than its actual value. It is the deal of the century for those considering to buy now. Super fast, and super reliable. By the looks of it, you and I seem to like the same type of cars.

Sometimes we need someone else to hold up the mirror for us.
After a quick review of your signature, we discover....

2001 996TT
1988 930 S slantnose
1986 930 sold
2009 Lotus Exige S260 sold
2006 Lotus Exige sold
1988 BMW M3 touring car sold

You had an '88 BMW that you sold and are now confused as to why you actually sold it.

You then bought a 2006 Lotus that you sold and then replaced with an '09 version of the same car...which you ultimately sold and are now angry that you did so.

Next came an '86 930 that you sold and then replaced with another 930.

You now have the 2nd 930 and the tt.

Based on the history I see, you don't really enjoy getting rid of cars. You have attempted selling the TT and reneged 10 times. I suspect if you were to sell the TT, you would only end up buying another 996TT.

only problem or issue i could imagine "selling" would be getting what it's worth, what you think it's worth, or getting back out what you might have "in" it. beyond that, i think you're on the right track and how many cars can make you smile and/or scare the **** out of you at will.

keep it.

There were a couple of others in the stable but I do miss my E30 M3 and my Lotus S260. My exact S260 was for sale a couple of weeks ago but I couldn't get myself to pay $10k more than what I sold it for with an additional 15k miles. Ugh.

But yes, I do regret and do a double take. I think I just see something that I just need to drive and do an impulse buy which explains some cars. But now that I don't race anymore and rarely go to the track my 996TT is kind of perfect. Plus I have 2 little kids which kills any 2 seater.

LOL - you sound just like me. Very little buyer's remorse, but a TON of seller's remorse - every time. When I sold my 01 TT I almost backed out - even after I had the money and the guy was on his flight to get it. That was seller's remorse before the car even left my driveway!

I find as soon as I sell a car for some practical, logical reason, it usually takes me about 9 minutes before I'm looking for something else.

leftlane...did you sell your car then?

I listed mine "for sale" because starting a new business, it "felt" right.

I thought I listed it for a good price (it is modded but didn't value the mods in the price)

I had one guy who said was 100% serious then stopped communicating and one other guy that want to "drive" it. Ya I bet he did.

Glad it didn't sell

I did sell - I thought about how I would feel if a seller reneged on me at the last minute so I went through with it. After about 2 weeks I started poking around looking for a replacement and ended up getting a 996TT cab.

The biggest issue is the pricepoint for these cars now attracts all kinds of wackadoodles - I have zero patience for the random ******** that lowballed me without even seeing the car. I think I ended up selling it to a guy on this board who knew what he wanted and I was priced pretty fairly for an 01 with 20k miles.

No worries - 2001 arctic silver 6 speed w/PSS9s, short shifter, wheel spacers, 20k miles - sold it for $45k, but keep in mind this was in 2011. Car was in excellent condition and found a buyer from out of state who flew in to Dallas and drove it home to NYC.

Leftlane that sounds about right for the time, I paid 47.9 in spring 2012 for mine with 12.5k miles stock.

Nothing recently - had a different shifter installed there along with some maintenance but it's been a while. I've had this seal grey turbo cab for a few years now - only put maybe 2000 miles a year on it. You might be thinking of a different car.

these cars are worth so little compared to what they are, anybody would be a fool to sell.

I bought a Maser GT this year and love it dearly, but its no TT. For the $35k I could get for the TT, I'll just keep it thank you!

Honestly, I can't imagine owning any more sports cars. These 2 have it all covered.

The problem really has to do with the fact that there is absolutely nothing at this price-point that is comparable. And for my needs which is 4 seats (for my kids) there is virtually nothing that I can think of that makes any sense whatsoever at almost any price. I looked at 997TT's but while I like the front and the interior a little bit more, I don't like the rear (looks like it's wearing a skirt) and it is just not worth double the price for what is essentially the same car.
