Can't Stand Them
Porsches have always been 2X as expensive as Vettes. Always has been, always will be. So the "Corvette is half the price" argument is moot. "equal" performing Porsches have pretty much always been 2X as expensive, so what's changed ? If you liked a 911 TT 5 years ago over the Z06 then, the argument will pretty much be the same for the upcoming 911 TT. I do wish Porsche would step up & give us the 525 hp (rumored Turbo S) as the standard Turbo. I truly hate all this "S" nonsense (from regular Carreras to Boxsters, to the Cayman). Instead we will get what Porsche thinks is "adequate" power (probably 480 hp).

This 'character' of the 996Turbo is a tough act to follow but important for the marque. I hope Porsche realizes this....I think they do.
I think we are approaching serious diminishing returns.
Automobile manufactures will need very large increases in power to weight ratios to mke their super-performance cars go much faster than the current crop of super cars.
The current X50 does the 1/4 in 11.78 at 120 mph trap.
The new Z06 does the 1/4 in 11.7 at 125mph trap (+50 hp and a lot less weight).
The best shoot out super cars did the 1/4 at 11.0 at 131+ trap with 600, 700, and 800 hp.
You just can't get dramatic increases in acceleration curves at these elevated levels without significant increases in engineering and power to weight.
A prime example of this is the new Bugatti Veryon with over 1000 hp and 922 ft lbs. torque does the 1/4 at 10.8 at 140 mph trap.
How much faster do we want to go??

I love Ferrari and Lamborghini, but the Ferrari vs Lamborghini nonsense is old. I love Porsche to, and I seriously do believe the Porsche Turbo 996 is now dated and not anything to get exited over, however it is still a benchmark for most performance stats. Can't wait to see what the 997TT brings us. People just don't know what they want, im not going to name any names. But what ever they have in their garage currently makes them put anything else they don't have.

Too many BOY RACERS if you ask me.
Apart from being fast, I also love the Porsche for it's Stylin and name (the history of Porsche)

Corvettes just went downhill with the 80's Stingrays thats when they became the pimp's ride over here no matter how much they cost or how bloody fast they are...
How many Vette versus 996TT threads can you have on one forum???
There must be 5000 of these threads just in the last year between this board, flat-6.net, and rennlist. Give it a rest!

That means they were developed in 98 and 99. You finally caught up to a stock turbo from 6 years ago. WOW, nice going, now get lost.

It's really not a big deal that there are lots of faster cars out there. Heck...I will soon have a Supra that I would happily put against any Turbo on this board in a straight line. But it's still no TT and I really wouldn't compare them to one another.
I'll never understand why people act so threatened of other fast cars. If you enjoy your TT...that's all that really matters...even if it isn't the fastest thing around.

I think the major problem is really the mentality
'If you like this particular brand, you must hate all others'
Why is it that once someone becomes a Porsche owner or L car or F-car owner suddenly all other cars are inferior?

What really gets me the most about these threads is that people who will never really explore the limits of their cars, whether it be from lack of desire or ability, are arguing over .2 seconds.

With cars with this performance it really comes down to how fast you can shift, and how well u can drive. Although I think this new Z06 can do 3.7 0-60 for 65k, I cannot argue thats its not impressive. However I am sure if I owned one and raced a GT2 or a chipped turbo a lot of it would be down to how fast each driver can shift.
I got a ride today in a GT2 with a very experienced driver and all I have to say is I have a lot to learn and I wouldnt want to own a GT2 until I had the experience to really be able to apreciate how raw it is. I cant believe Im saying this but i would personally take a turbo over a GT2 if given the choice due to the fact that I would be out of my element attempting to push the GT2. Im not meaning to bash but really how many of us really push these cars to the limit?

You are looking at this the wrong way, take it as a compliment that a 911 turbo is still considered one of the best performance cars out there this many years after its release. People wanting to compare their cars to it is a testament to just how good it was/is.
The 997 turbo will come out before you know it, and then everyone will be talking about how much faster it is than everything else.
The fact is the new z06, m5, gallardo, etc. all outpace the turbo in a straight line, no shame in that. The 997 will restore balance to the force or however you want to look at it
