Pics and questions about Techart powerkit and X50
Hello guys! Or should I say modaholics!
My father made his dream come true and bought a 996 Turbo. It has the Techart stage 2 kit, which means 530hp/740Nm. Techart says it consists of:
- Sport airfilter system
- Techart Motronic (remapped ecu I suppose?)
- Sport induction pipes
- Techart turbo chargers
First question, what are the turbos ? I suppose they should be K24s but there might be some modifications. Can anybody confirm what kind of they are actually ? What's the sensible limit with those ? Techart's stage 3 kit (600hp) is done with different turbos (they even disconnect the 4WD, so they're all about reliability.)
Okay after the stage 2 kit the exhaust has been upgraded. Now there are Techart race cats and their sport exhaust. I believe if they're properly designed, there should be some power increase ? Has someone experienced how big gain are we talking about ? Techart itself doesn't claim any increase if I remember correctly.
Do you think the car "needs" a remap after the exhaust has been upgraded ?
As you know, a dyno run would answer almost all my questions and it will be done in a proper place. I just like to ask your opinions before it !
The car seems to have plenty of power
Now to the X50. I know the basic differences of the X50 vs. stock Turbo. Is it also true that the engine itself is the same as GT2 ? Does a modded X50 rev easier and faster than a stock Turbo which has been modded to same power ? Or does it have other nice features ?
What about the beefier transmission, what kind of power the stock transmission can handle ? I know there might not be a clear answer to this, but If you have some experience it would be nice to hear.
I'm also a bit interested about the X50/GT2 intercoolers, they are 10% more efficient but what about in practice ? Of course they are better but is the benefit huge ? I do know that heat is an enemy. The car will be tracked (relatively cold weather, Finland.) and at the 'Ring too.
(Yes, the 'Ring is the reason the car has been bought. I haven't experienced better track. The car has already GT3 seats and semislicks, the suspension might need a bit upgrading and a roll cage or roll bar is needed.)
Okay here are the pics:

(yes the Carrera is a family member too...)
The Turbo is the first car which NEEDS 3 different sets of tires: street, track and winter
Sorry for making a bit long post. If you can answer a little bit, THANKS!

Thanks guys for answering to my questions...
Were there too few of them ?
Okay I made a trip to dyno (Bosch) today. First time ever...
First run: The car doesn't go past 5000 rpms, how to avoid this ? Is it transferring too much power to front wheels on high speed and the computer thinks it's not wise to give more power to a maniac driver ?
Second run: The car starts acting like a RWD, don't know why. Now the problem is too much tire spinning, even though they used some kind of friction spray to tires. (Tires were wet because of rainy weather). The board computer said "PSM failure" and "ABS failure".
So how to dyno a 996tt or is this particular car or the dyno somehow a problem ? I think next time I'll be visiting Manthey's dyno which is located usefully right next to Nürburgring...
If you like boasting, laptimes are what counts! But knowing the power would be nice
(mods: Techart parts, like: k24 turbos, remap, air filter & induction pipes and sport exhaust with 200cell cats, power: unknown, 530-550hp?) I think new remap might give some nice results, but can the engine and transmission handle even the current ones at track conditions?
Hope there's now enough questions, maybe one of those can be answered
