Come on now... nobody knows that better than me! If you read most of my posts... they are all meant for a good chuckle or two. Even me calling someone out is not a serious matter. In this case however, I just want Totalled 993 to know that he is more than welcome here. If one person takes a post in a bad way, then it is always possible for the person that the posts are directed at to take things negatively. It's all in good fun and that's what is so great about most boards. You get to know a group of people who you can eventually call your friends and most of what is said is harmless entertainment. Even PA001 would be welcome in my book as long as he started telling the truth. You have to remember, dentists are not evil, they just inflict pain for a living!

Yeah, but ebay is not the absolute best indicator. Some people will sell a car for less if they are in a situation where their dealership is lowballing them and want to sell it quick locally. I admit, I don't know for sure because I was looking at cabs. My criteria was that it had to be an '04 or newer cab with less than 5k miles and Porsche certified. I found as low as $108k for well optioned cabs and as high as $130k for highly optioned '05 S cabs or '04 X50 cabs. I agree $70k is on the low side for an '02 but if you are willing to wait it is possible. I have seen '02s with 30k miles advertised for $75k. I would think that $70k would be a reasonable offer for a desperate party. It sounds to me that Totalled is willing to wait.

My suggestion would be to use Manheim as a reference. You will see what dealerships are wholesaling the cars for and it will give an idea of what they are offering people for trades. If Manheim shows greater than $70k for an '02 with 30k miles, then there is no way in hell you will find even a private party selling one for less than that when they can just go to any dealership and sell it to them for that "firesale" price.

I should have anticipated this. I was living in Washington at the time, but registered the car at my parents' address in Oregon, where there's no sales tax.

Regardless, if you read my post, you will see that it clearly states that I apologize in advance if I am wrong but come on. My take on the subject is this. If someone is extremely frugal the last thing they will do is "waste" money on frivolous add ons. Extremely frugal people don't waste money on anything. Least of all exhausts on a Maxima. Or wheels and tires the exact same size as the original wheels and tires that came with the car. Then again, there is the issue of wanting to paint the calipers. Hmm, that has to be worth at least 10hp. Extremely frugal people simply don't do that kind of crap. Even the can of paint is too much to waste on something that looks fine and is perfectly functional as it is. The main thing here is if the guy's dad is a physician, he must be pretty intelligent. Intelligent people who are "seriously" into cars and can't spend more than $30k for some reason or another simply do not buy Maximas. I can understand if there is a need for a family sedan but it sounds like the 1989 Camry covers that need.

Also, a man that is soft spoken and "at earth level" does not get chrome wheels, loud exhaust, red stillen sticker, nor want red painted calipers" That is the antithesis of soft spoken and earth level. That is someone who feels the need for bling. Basically none of it makes sense.

Again, in the grand scheme of things who cares. Live and let live. However, do you know the profile of the type of person that does the above things? It's not the frugal 56 year soft spoken, earth level, physician with the controlling frugal wife. It's usually the son of that couple that fits the profile.
He actually knows the difference between real and feigned performance. He can identify M3s, M5s, Porsche turbos, and Z06s. He knows his stuff.

But he does the gheyest stuff to his cars. His 1986 Maxima had a ridiculously loud exhaust and...get this...a fake exhaust pipe welded under the bumper opposite the real pipe to make it appear it had a dual exhaust.

He once took the plunge and bought a used 540i 6-speed, but it had reliability issues, and he soon hurried back to his faithful Maxima.

He's trapped by my mom and is too cheap himself to buy something real, so he makes frivolous mods to his Maxima. He actually had to lie to my mom about the price of the rims and exhaust. She would have made him return them if she knew they cost $1500 together.

But he thinks his car is beautiful, and if he can get that feeling for less than us, isn't he the lucky one?

I guess the only thing to be concerned about here is that a used TT is what it is. Porsche maintenance is not cheap. Getting a used car at the lower end of the price range is risky business no matter what the car is. From what I have seen, people that take advantage of great deals on very high end $100k+ cars end up paying for it in the end with maintenance. You might be better off getting him a new Boxster S with full warranty and no stories or even stepping up to a base 997 Carrera.

993,
There's one in Cincinnati to check out. 2001 TT, black/black, no mods, ad says "most options". Only 839 miles!!! He is asking $85k. I have no affiliation other than I live in the area. The contact number is 513-260-0742. If you are interested, I could check it out for you.

Scott

No ne made him do anything. I think a lot of people here are just tired of the fakes that run around. I know it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but no reason to stroke someone's ego! At least this guy was a sport about it and understands that there are a lot of losers out there willing to waste our time.

On that note... it's over! Lol.

To an extent your right, the reason why i did not sell my car on ebay was because of the lowballing and people looking for a deal, it is ebay afterall right? You will not get top dollar, i just did it for the exposure.. But that 996tt was pretty cheap for 44k miles, looked very good.. I will say it is a little cheaper than dealers and so on, but nothing dramatic
