2nd time 996tt.. or maybe a 997
Mine is my DD. 100 K Miles in the last 4 years and I only replace what's broken with a few exceptions (tires, plugs, oil, filters). Sure I've had a few things break (coolant res, water pump, shock mounts, alternator, main trans bearing) but I've done all the work myself (except for the trans) and I consider the work "entertainment" so I'm happy to do it. I would definitely not consider my TT high-maintenance.
if you want reliability get a bone stock 996t with under 40k miles and drive it on the weekends. never mod it. if you want mods then get ready to pay for them. its a 15 yr old car. just bringing the car to acceptable standards with new rubber fluids and suspension rubber can run a few grand. add in coolant fittings, radiators etc and the cost keeps getting higher. face it porsches are expensive to maintain. the car was 130k$ new and now 40k$ but maintenance is still for a 130k$ car. spending money is part of the ownership experience. 996 or 997 your going to part with $$. the only porsche that doesn't require any maintenance is the porsche thats never driven
you play, you pay.
Krazy is right in that the more you stress things the more they break. If you run a car hard you can expect to spend money= replaced my share of motors-trannys but never blamed the car or considered it a mystery lol.
That's my plan man... now it's finding the right car to start with, I'm going to take my time this round.
The 996TT is a super realible car. Like all cars, modding heavy comes with a tax. You keep your foot in it and the Indy shop will put their foot in your *** when she breaks. Be prepared.. This game can make or break you and is not for the faint at heart..
The best thing you can do is read some past posts from owners of all years, other than 2nd gear pop out there is no difference on costs/problems. The harder you run anything on average the more repairs you will do. Also read the posts from the bargain buyers and see what the usual end game is. I mod some of my cars but never lose sight that quality maintenance is more important than what turbo or exhaust I'm running.
Do a quick google search on maxcare and what is and isn't covered. looks like the normal wear and tear issues are not covered. Read between the lines the maxcare just looks like a commission benefit for the salesman. Plus you are paying a deductible if it's covered. I wouldn't let the maxcare coverage be the feel good insurance you are looking for.
but in resale value, sure i'll give you that. stock is gonna get you more money back unless maybe it's e.g. ALL "ruffed" up lol
No not in performance terms unless something that should have been watched/maintained was over looked then maybe yes. Reminds me of a guy wearing an expensive Italian suit that never visits the dentist lol.
