thats because out of the 4 choices 3 of them suck moose *****!
its truly funny everybody brags on epl evoms yes even cobb as the BEST tunes out there yet everybody has forgotten the OG of tuners todd knighton of protomotive. he was tuning these cars when ALL the others were still tuning audis and vw's

i didn't forget to mention them, and i learned more in a few min conversation with that guy todd than in years here and i still don't know sh*t. i just couldn't deal with going mafless which is why i reached out to him in the first place... also no one has mentioned the germans i.e. fvd/cargraphic et al either. i have a decade old cargraphic tune, but have still bolted more bits, so i'm betting a more optimized tune from cobb or just about anyone would see gains. also there's something to be said about actually being able to reach the tuner(s) you use. that tends to leave a few of the more known larger places and unfortunately although they may have the best reps ( like proto ) getting fast help when you need it, might be more difficult than with the smaller more "custom" tuners/shops.
you guys really want the BEST tune and tuner out there? PROEFI AND A HOST OF PROEFI TUNERS. the stock dme is the equivalent of a bag fone compared to what new technology can do. with the right tuner its hands down the best there is.
question is who wants to drop the cash to get the best for the car?

i'm sure you're right. but is that necessary for a guy thats gonna maybe tune + exhaust? there are *some*? that stop there! though I've never known of any
you're building out a 1000hp animal. you need standalone etc. maybe thats a factor, no?

i actually had the proefi installed when i was on stock internals and 600 hp. it was the safeguards that the computer can do that sold me. i spoke with a few big name engine builders and asked this question. would i be smarter to build internals or engine management? 3 out of 3 builders said management. that sealed the deal
Who did you talk to?
The top 2 most powerful, dependable, established and the most "beat on" cars are on stock ECU's......... Kong and Todd....... tuned by protomotive........ then you also had Powel in texas running stock ecu with huge power for a very long time, still does I believe.
I also run the same setup as Kong and Todd. USP motorsports GT2 is another high power 9 second car on stock ECU....matters who you talk to and the people you spoke with sell the product or are associated with them. At the same extent I am not saying you did anything wrong or less then me or anyone else, just that a standalone isn't necessarily the best choice and plenty of examples on both sides of the fence.....
Also Todd from Protomotive won't touch ProEfi with a 10 foot pole and considers it a piggyback.......but that stuff is beyond my knowledge but I did have the convo with him.

now the 3 builders were todd tim and errol. as for todd considering the proefi a piggyback i give him more common sense than that. its a full standalone that can be run as a piggyback if one chooses to. and I'm betting lunch he is well aware of that. that he chooses to run the dme is his choice it didn't have any affect on his thoughts that engine management trump internals
the point that I'm trying to make is this factory computer is over a decade old. does anyone on this thread still use the computer they bought 10 yrs ago in there home? doubtful. you buy the newest fastest computer you can afford . its the way off technology. cars aren't any different
but going back to your analogy which is apt, this guy is gonna be very happy with most ANY ots tune and known exhaust, especially if he's coming from who knows what?! and the innocence of his initial query showed that he'd probably be ( at the very least, albeit "initially" ) quite happy with a video game from '03.
..and back to my cargraphic 1.2 tune from what, maybe '03!? to further your point? well, there's a whole bunch of stock '12 turbo porsche's that are no faster than mine is today for having done little to it, and we each, as I've said, kinda know what each of our particular setups allow us to competently achieve and what is reasonable given our respective "goals", albeit and admittedly being quite different.
but you can at least see i'm sure, why i or anyone might suggest to a guy that has ( again ) picked up what is presumably his first 414 crank old a** "super car", that any of the most known,.. and REACHABLE tuners, might be the wisest place for him..
to begin

you my friend, are another story. so you see it based upon your particular wants and needs, less so his immediate goals and needs. so it isn't necessarily about which tune or methodology even is "best" for the platform, it's simply about what's "best" for him.
was all i was sayin'.
i don't play video games ( unless "pong" counts? ) yet i understand your analogy, and balanced against the notion of a guy that just got his 414 crank hp car, we need to understand he doesn't know one video game from another. so while some of us have more of a sense of what you mean, and you're well placed already at the extreme "end" in terms of goals for your car and even what this platform is capable of. which also explains why you need a build and the necessary tuning adjustments that your eventual setup will allow ( as will the cobb, if i understand it properly? but thats another debate.. )

Seriously such a great post!! *bravo* Thank you! You pretty much hit all points very accurately!
P.S. I came from an almost stock 350z that I drove for 11 years and before that a 350rwhp 300zxtt.
