Notes on coil pack replacement with new style coils

agree.

Longer bolts (Torx 6x40; Part #: 900.385.025.01) were required too for the new coils.
The rear bumper cover and intercoolers and hoses were removed. Oh and the rear wheels. The coils (and plugs, I had the plugs changed too) were as accessible as anyone could hope for. No part # for the plugs but I saw the new ones and they were the same as the old ones. Price? $31.50 for 6 new plugs.
Labor? Two hours. (And he cleaned the trash out of the radiator ducts at the front bumper cover.)

any reasonably experienced mechanic that has changed the coils on these cars more than TWICE has removed the "mystery" from the equation and with it the 2.5 EXTRA hours that the dealerships collect and then pass along to pcna so the dealership can pay their technicians to keep their corporate sponsorship with PCNA?

This might be a little offtopic to clear things out:::
This was my 3rd time I replaced sparkplugs. second time was helping a friend with his 996tt - first time i did this, (And maybe I'm wrong but i've seen people saying - it can be done without bumper removal - THAT is pretty much huge false. (If its possible , tell me ) from what i can tell, with shields and removing coils.

After that, I was able to get all the coils and plugs out pretty easily. It was not quick though, I had to build little combinations of tools and swivels and various lengths of extensions. The key is a 1/4" flex head ratchet, a tool we hardly ever use but on this job it was the MVP!
I used slim 997 coils and had no issues. NGK BKR7E gapped to 0.025 and I replaced the variocam brackets even though mine were fine. I would be cautious about the heat shield touching the "tall" coils because any rattling could trip the knock sensor. I've had that happen many times on other cars and on mine, I had a turbo heat shield rust off at the mounting flange and cause the same problem on my 911 before I replaced it.

Going to try and install the tall coils tomorrow.. hoping all goes well.
I had originally thought I ordered the older slim coils from pelicanparts but got delivered the tall coils instead.

Did my coilpacks over the weekend with the tall coils and clearance was exactly the same as Ronny's picture above.
Everything seemed to fit and go in correctly and didnt end up needing any washers for the heat shield.
The hardest part of the job for me was removing a stuck silicone hose that connected to the intercoolers during removal.

Finally got around to finishing my Beru coil install lol. The tall coils fit around mentioned pipe but was a tight fit, overall an easy job. The heat shields did not need spacers in my case. The only snafu was ECS sent me two low profile coils and four high. I figured since they were up dated coils it wasn't worth sending them back and installed together on one side for ease of replacement if needed. Told my potential buyer of situation and he was fine with it also.

So I called Pelican directly a few weeks ago to order the older style plugs to make sure I get the right coils and don't have any problems on install.
Spoke with an agent explained everything from this post, he seemed aware and told me if I ordered 997-602-104-00 they will be shorter and I have to re-use my old bolts but 997-602-104-02 newer ones will come with longer bolts .
1 week later they arrive and I see they sent me the newer ones anyways for the same price. I called them up and spoke with another agent he said they might not make the older ones anymore. He told me to send them back and he will try to source the older ones from another supplier. Oddly in the box the packing info said 997-602-104-00-INT but the coils had ZS178 on the boxes and included the longer bolts.
Waiting to see if I get the right ones this time.
