Auto insurance for the track?

Those of you who track your TT's, what do you do about auto insurance. Do you need a special policy to cover an accident on the track? I'm guessing my insurance (Allstate) would just laugh at me.

I checked with State Farm and it is covered for DE track days as long as it is not a race.

I have been trying to find out the same thing. Does anyone know of a company in the U.S. that offers coverage for the track if your normal insurance does not cover it?

You can purchase "racing insurance" from certain companies.
We do this with the rental program guys who race.

It can be purchased race to race- set value - However its expensive and the deductable is usually high. depending on amount you ensure the car for.

Be careful with insurance companies that tell you they will cover you for a DE event,. Make sure you CYA that its a real DE event and not a open track day.. If its open track you might not be covered...

Just an FYI..

Hey, just my two cents but maybe its diff in calif.... I specifically spoke with state farm, farmers and AAA. After being told on teh phone yes, they cover, i asked a few more questions. After explaining the DE and events, two of them called me back and stated no, they wouldnt cover any car on a track period. AAA said no way as soon as i told them what the DE was. If you heard diff, please pass it on!

i also asked my carrier, state farm, and they said no. i am afraid that by just simply "asking" i have already put myself on "the list". you know the "just for asking - deny him if anything happens - jack up his rates if any little thing happens LIST". insurance companies DO maintain databases with this type of info.

i use american collectors insurance

here's some good reading regarding DE insurance

it's best to either self insure or go with track in. ala american collector, laurel etc.

"normal" insurance company can always wiggle their way out of not covering DE. what if it's a true DE, but i put a timer on the pit wall. so is that timed or not???

they may pay and then not renew. you need a letter of experience from existing ins when you try to get new ins. most likely old ins. co will disclose why they wont' renew you...
