4B0905849 doesn't seem to fit a 2003TT. Any ideas?

Everything was fine, we did some spirited driving leaving the meet to go check out a local AutoX. When its time to go home, I put the key in, turn it, and.....nothing. No start, no click. Just lights on the dash and I can faintly hear what I presume to be the fuel pump priming.

I noticed I left my radar plugged in, so my first guess was dead battery. I tried a jump, still nothing. Then as a last resort to avoid a tow, we tried push starting and the car fired right up.

The culprit, a bad ignition switch! If you go to Porsche they will advise you that you need the full ignition mechanism and have you spending $600+. The good news is that the ignition switch itself is a part shared by VW/Audi and can be had for ~$10 on Amazon Prime. (Or ~$50 at the dealer if you need it same day). It take some finagling to get under the dash, but this is absolutely a repair anyone can do on their own (take that as if I can do you, you can do it )

Never mind - the part number is on top along with the Audi symbol
From what i can tell if the ignition assembly has never been swapped out, this is the correct part number here.

I just replaced mine and it was a piece of cake, other than getting stuck under the dash. $17 delivered from Vertex in Miami.

Pedros instructions (noted Above) were awesome.

I took the old one apart; it appears the dielectric grease dries up and turns to glue.

I'm glad I found this thread. Took my car out for the first time in a little while this past weekend and came across several odd issues. First, I noticed that the A/C wouldn't come on. The display would work, but the blower never kicked on. Not a huge deal, the weather was nice so I put the windows down. Second, just for kicks, I tried the heated seats and they wouldn't turn on either. Third, the one touch down function for the windows worked perfectly, but wouldn't work to put them back up. Lastly, and the worst issue by far, the headlights would not come on. The marker lights, turn signals, and brake lights all worked, but no headlights.

I had noticed my key was getting a little tricky to get out of the ignition, but this past weekend was by far the worst. Ordered the replacement part and should have it on by tomorrow night. Without finding this thread and a couple others, I thought I was going to be in for a major repair.
