what ignition coils ?

Hello,

My car having a little (big...) high fuel consumption and a little misfire just under 2000 tr/min, I decided to buy new sparks and coils.
Good idea isn't it ?

For the sparks, I bought 6 Bosch FR6LDC, but I have some doubts about coils.

NGK says that the reference for 996 turbo is : 48221, but some sellers on the web sell 48562.
Based on my research, 48562 are good for 996 carrera...

So what do you think about that please ?

Furthermore,48562 are cheaper than 48221...

you got the correct plugs, and here are the coils. don't listen to ngk lol.

correct beru 997 coils come with the two longer hold down bolts.

"Updated design with 31 mm long bolt tabs, (uses 6 X 40 mm hold down bolts)., This brand includes (2) 6 X 40 mm hold down bolts."

Thank you Mister !

Do you mean that the 48562 are good for my car, but the beru are a better choice because they have long bolts ?

are the NGK bolts too short ?

I insist on the NGK because I found a good price on Ebay (23.55 euros/ about 25.5 $), and to buy in USA is not a good deal for me because of high importation taxes and shipping.

i don't know anything at all about ngk coils or even if they exist so i cant help with those part numbers. in fact, i've never even heard of ngk coils? though ive used ngk spark plugs since 1967 LOL. the ngk bkre7 plug is closey related in heat range to the 6 range on the bosch, but you *may* be confusing coils with plugs. either way, now we share the confusion! lol

my advice: use the oem 997 coils ( who cares re shipping! it is negligible to the EU ). do NOT "insist" as you say on the ngk ( coils? huh? )

use only bosch or beru. or get some bbi plasma coils, and never change them again.

I don't confuse, I really speak about coils, look at that :
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/111998716708?...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

They are good for 997 carrera (ph1).

It costs to me 156 euros (170$) for the set of six and shipping...

And when I, in France, want to buy something from the USA, I have to pay about 20% charges more... (not shipping, just charges!!! shipping price is in extra... again... ) not really interesting, isn't it... ?

But you confirm that coils for 997 carrera are good for a 996 turbo ? So I will try to find that, Bosch or Beru if I find a good price.

Thank you.

lol! well in spite of the fact that these cars are often my raison d'être your english is far better than my french!

and although i have never sourced a part for a 997 carerra? it *appears" as if the 997 coils ( beru ) are indeed, one and the same part number's, according to pelican parts. i do not have at hand, a PET parts book so i am relying upon their listing:

997 carerra Part #: 997-602-104-02-M47
996 turbo Part #: 997-602-104-02-M47

so, judging by this? i'd say the 997 carrera coil is also used in the 996 turbo, and given there are no more coils made with a ANY "996" part designation? i'd say you'd be safe to get them if the part number of that eBay item matches those i listed!

however, if you look at the "item compatibility" chart of the GERMAN! seller on eBay? it lists the 996 gt3 as "compatible and a "997 carrera" but NOT a "996 turbo" as being compatible. the obvious question then is: why isn't a 996 turbo listed on their 3 page compatibility listing?!

i would buy ( again ) only BOSCH or BERU 997 coils.

i would suggest: "caveat emptor" and ask before you buy them, so i would email first pre-purchase, to confirm they will work. never once heard of an ngk coil fitting our cars. a hitachi MAF? sure lol

so yeah, sorry about your VAT etc

..and "rep" for understanding me at all! lol

Thank you for my english, but I admit, I sometimes use a translator... And it's often hard for me to understand everything, jokes, diminutives, technical terms etc... All my english only comes from school, and Michael Jackson... lol

By example: what does "rep" means?

Thank you for your help, I will not take the risk, I've found some berus at 28.19 e each, and free shipping.

http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Beru-Bobine-d...QAAOSweW5VM65Z

I think there are the good ones. I'll only have to buy longer bolts at my Porsche's dealer because mine are to short isn't it ?

I hope it will help my car.

no need to buy bolts hardware from the dealer. any allen bolt from a hardware store the length you need will work for a fraction of the cost

Yup. I recently purchased 997-602-104-02-M47 coils from pelicanparts and longer bolts came with them. I highly doubt pelican placed them in there so Beru must be shipping them out like that.

I agree.. bbi coils /thread. You pay a bit more up front, but then you don't have to worry about them again.

^ no more odd sounding than an ngk coil! but who knows! but they ( like bosch ) make a tons of electrical components so its not that surprising. i often wonder if many generic items are ( at times ) just "off branded" oems!

I went with BBI/Plasma Direct coils - A little pricy but I never have to worry about replacing coils or having misfires. I've had them for 4 year now - they are excellent. Anyone who says they don't make a difference has never actually used them.
