ECU's done, out of shootout

I took my car to the dealer this morning. They said the car has a bad ECU. I called all the dealers around here looking for one, but no luck at all.

Unless I can get a new ECU and it upgraded by Monday morning my car is currently undriveable in the conditions we will be driving.

Depressed,

MWEELS

Ah ****e that's really crap news.. Did they elaborate at all???

I mean if you had a bad ECu you'd be getting lights etc.. ?? Did you even get any?

I'd still try changing the spark plugs. That's what caused misfires/stutters and hesitations in my car before. early 01s use the ****ty 5s instead of 6s.

I told them that I thought it was the spark plugs when I took it in. They said the reason they think it's the ECU because it is overboosting.

Marty, is the ECU board itself bad or is it just the chip?

If it's the latter, I have an idea for you... let me know.

Tyson,

You know how these guys are. They plug a computer into a computer and says what the computer says.

With that, I really couldn't tell you. Im pretty much open to any suggestions at this point!

If im thinking what your thinking I could grab some spark plugs throw them in and have powerchip throw their program on it and see what happens. The only problem is finding a shop right now that will do it, or this weekend for that matter.

marty,

If you're down to let PowerChip take a crack at it, I will convince them to help you out either today or this weekend.

Email me at racingfiend@yahoo.com. Send me your number and we'll discuss...

Marty, also, how much boost are you running and is it the only error code it's throwing?

I was running 1 bar with my GIAC. It's now back to stock. So .6 or .7 or so.

It's overboosting overstock because you've chipped it But it's not overboosting and causing the stutter. I would for sure change the spark plugs...

Does the dealer know it's been chipped?

The chip was taken out so I could take it to the dealer. It's all stock now. I think when he said overboosting he meant it would jump right to boost at the wrong times.

Hmph.. Sorry if I am weary of dealers, sometimes the things they do/say scares me is all.

Hoepfuly this can get sorted out.

Who did your GIAC chip? Chances are it can be flashed re-flashed Monday or even today.

Get changin' dem plugs tho
