Day @ the drags with my GT700

Had a great day at Speedworld Motorplex today. It was my first time running the 996 since I upgraded it to the GT700. It took me a couple of passes to master the clutch enough to get a decent launch. This car is an absolute beast!!! It trapped consistantly over 130mph, with the highest trap being 132mph. I managed to get an 11.32@128 out of it with a horrible 60' time. I'm running 19" wheels with continental street tires. I know that this car is capable of running 10's with the right launch (which I will be able to master shortly.

Here's my slip from the 11.32 run

Here in Arizona, we are notorious for having the slowest times around, because of our altitude, lack of humidity and barometric pressure. Here is the same run that has been adjusted for our crappy conditions:

Here's a shot of my car in front of the EVOMS trailer:

Wow! Keep us posted when you get in the 10's. Beautiful car!

very nice.... Bur about 3 weeks ago when u posted ur times with ur previous set up... I said that u will run only 11.3..; or so... and I was right. Ive done this many times over and over... and like I said b4.. it very hard to get into the 10s on the TTs.
u only ran .2 seconds faster .. granted that ur traps went up...nice.
All i know is that a lot of guys in ur previous post were raving how this car should do 10s.... should....
.. could... etc...
Im at 700 ft above sea level... and we do not use correction factors...
in any event ..nice work.

I'm still learning the clutch. On my slip you'll see that my 60' time was a crappy 1.9, when the car was a stage 4, my best 60' was 1.7. Everyone knows that for every 10th in the 60' you shave off 2 tenths from the ET, that means, when I learn the clutch and run another 1.7 60' that will make a 10.99. The trap speed is there, the 60' isn't. I've been doing this for some time now. I'll make sure I post the video of my 10second run for you within the next couple weeks.

Nice, good luck on 10's

markski@markskituning Jan 9, 2006 08:26 PM

I agree.. and I hope u can get in the low 1.7 60 ft... then ull see a high 10 sec. pass. but like I said many times b4... its very hard... too many issues like wheel hop, 1st gear sucks ass... the launch techinik has to be right on... unlike other cars.... etc, etc,... I noticed that HP alone will not get u great results when driving these cars at the strip.
BTW - what does the gt700 boost in 2nd and 3rd gears... just curious?

I Definetly agree!! People think that because our cars are all wheel drive, that we can launch like madmen. To the contrary, too many revs, and your car bounces down the track like a basketball from all of the wheelhop. Too few revs and it falls on it's face.

I had the same problem with the Stage 4. It took me a while to learn the release point of the clutch for a perfect launch. I feel very confident that I can do the same with this new GT700 clutch. My 1st time out with the stage 4, my best 60' was a 2.3, so I gues I'm already ahead of the game. These cars were definelty not built for drag racing!!

I agree 100%. You will be happy to know that I cut ONE 1.79 60ft with my 19" wheels on Yoko AVS sports. All others were in the 1.9x - 2.0 times. It CAN be done, with the perfect launch. :) Good luck!

Are you going to try a run with stock 18's?

That should drop a little from your ET

I've got 16" Brembos on the front, so 19's are my only option up there

I will be putting drag radials in 18" stock wheels on the rear next time though
