Filing up gas, gas pump stops at around 3/4 tank
150.. nice!
me, i drive to the *corner* market and back, through some incredible canyon roads and top off the tank employing the contortions mentioned here, using a 1/4 tank get there and to get home. so it's nearly a half tank drive to civilization and back.
reminds me of my 'ol flattrack triumph with the one *imperial" gallon gas tank hah

16.6 gal fuel tank
pretty common problem; something to do with the tank ventilation I think? Many threads on it. If you hold the pump handle at a 90 degree angle or upside down it will allow you to continue to fill.
I had that problem on my car since I bought it, never really chased it down but when I replaced the fuel pump it now fills to the top instead of stopping early.

one feature of this tank is that it only "estimates" the last ( iirc? ) 1/3 ( or so ) of the tank, given its shape of design and where it's placed up front.
this is the cause of the gauge issues we all get. but explains nothing about the stupid flap/valve and the contortions and spillage that *can* be a daily occurrence. until you learn the tricks and dance steps lol

Another question, since the tank is 16.6 gallons. I filled up today, trying the spout upside down. It filled up 12 gallons. My reserve light was on, and it said i had 40 miles to go. Is that right that i had 4 gallons still in there? Why does the reserve come on so soon? My gauge went to 4/4 with the 12 gallons also, was spitting out gas on the filler also.
The low fuel warning light on my Turbo comes on with around 65 miles of fuel left.
This is an estimate made by the DME based on fuel usage prior to filling the tank.
What I have observed is with the remaining miles getting close to the 65 mile mark if I drive with the intent to get better fuel economy the remaining miles number actually goes up instead of down. Then when I pull into the gas station and fill up afterwards the remaining miles can be some rather big number, up to or even above 300 miles in some cases.
At other times when the car is getting low on fuel and I'm in town and driving around the remaining miles reading just plummets and then the low fuel warning light comes up. When I fill up the remaining miles number is quite a bit less down in the 225/250 mile range.
In some cases there is several gallons of fuel left in the tank. Maybe as many as 4 based on how many gallons I manage to put into the tank. At other times the tank requires 13, 14, even a few times 15 gallons to fill up.
