HELP problem with Tilton clutch

Fitted a Titon carbon clutch and flywheel to a 996T and now the starter takes like 2 key turns to engage (new starter and fine on old flywheel) When it does engage after the loud clicks she turns fine and starts with no sign of the starter sticking in at all, Friend says he had the same on 2 tiltons but cant remember how he fixed it, any ideas?

It can only be shimmed forward (out) from starter not sideways (away) < i have tried a washer between starter and bellhousing but the same, when it does engage it sounds fine.

Came from tilton and from another member on here who did not have this trouble, clutch is recently reconditioned by tilton and the member has been straight up through the whole deal so I believe him, it does engage and turn over eventually.

Sounds like a tolerance issue with the bell housing / starter. Can you slot the holes where it bolts on and pull it away from the flywheel so it's not meshing as tight. This is my guess.

That would be logical but after chatting to Tilton last night I think first move is to test starter, it wont be possible to slot starter holes as the nose of the starter sits in the bellhousing/engine to keep the starter aligned internally.

New starter sorted her out which is strange because the one that decided not to work was only 6 months old !!!

I have a fairly new Tilton 3 disc, ceremetalic, and have the same issue. Sometimes it doesn't grab and it spins or it grabs and after a second or two it will disengage and spin. I've been playing with a new ecu and having a hard time getting start\cold-start sorted so I had to crank for long periods of time.
