Limits stock airfilter box (mafless)

Hi guys,

I have been through a couple of different airfilter setups.
First had air filters next to IC ducts. Worked well but get very dirty very quickly.
That combined with having to remove rear bumper and IC's to service the airfilters caused me to move the filters to the turbos.
After talking to Freddy I went with the K&N RX-3800 filters with filter socks.
Mounted directly on the turbos.
First time out in rain I had problems with the filters beeing soaking wet..
It turns out the socks I got wasnt for keeping water out. Only dust pre-filters.
There IS water socks available but I just dont really trust that a sock can keep water out without limiting flow. Especially since these RX-3800 filters are so small.. And there is not space for bigger filters on the turbos.
So next I moved filters to the engine bay..
Flex hoses to cone filters in engine bay. Where the stock airfilter box used to be. This works well but the filter and hoses come close to pulleys..
Now considering reintroducing stock airfilter box.
But modify it to accept the flex hoses and then run some high flow airfilter in there..
That would make it nice and clean oem looking setup with a good cold air feed from my GT2 decklid.
But what are the limits of the filters that fit in there?
Anyone tested/ measured turbo inlet vacuum to see at what power level such airfilter setup is restrictive?

you're going to modify the stock box to have an outlet from each turbo? the biggest restriction with stock box for 996 is the single outlet and the pipe routing after that.

997TT stock airbox has dual outlets. very efficient. look into the limits of that box for an idea, but I think people use it up to and over 1000hp on some setups. Im retrofitting the 997TT box to my car.

what? lol water injection.

I run a small cone filter inside the engine bay. I don't think it loses any power. It is a tad smaller than the panel filter but works very well.

I'd like to see some pics of your progress.

Yes will modify the stock box to accept two flex hoses. To get rid of the restrictive inlet piping.

thought about the 997tt box but it has inlets in each end and routing hose/pipe to the passenger side is going to be hard. Not much space..

Right now it is a collection of parts waiting for me to take everything apart again now that I have most of the project sorted out.... It's not plug and play, lot of trial and error... needs 997 y-pipe, the fuel cooler or it's location needs to be modified/changed/deleted, the AC lines are in the way, etc etc. Would've been easier/cheaper for me to just use fenderwell intakes or something, but I fell in love with this project for some silly reason.

Yeah, routing is going to be not the easiest thing. I've removed a lot of stuff from my passenger side compared to most cars so Im hoping to make it work.

I've seen a 996 box with dual inlets on the same side before, I can't recall where it was... So someone has definitely done the idea you are thinking and make it work, I don't see any reason not to go for it. It'll be easier and cheaper than the 997 box for sure
