The Next Shoot out!
The Next Shoot out!
While this is such a hot topic, what would you guys like to see next time?
My thoughts are something like this:
-Power Peak Hp/Torque and average
-Trap speeds (more than just 1/4 mile, maybe 80 to 120 etc.)
-Comfort (ride quality, interior comfort, ease of getting in and
out, DB level at different speeds, not just engine
noise but road noise too)
-Road course (Big Track, a pylon course, lateral G test)
-Braking Repeated hard braking show G force to see if they
start to fade
Top speed would be cool as well but not sure how to do that legally unless NV would let us have a few miles for a day.

Re: The Next Shoot out!
I would like to see the following:
1) Tuners not allowed to retune, change ECU between tests
2) Everyone uses the same wheels and tires period!
3) Bring what you got, but, let it be what an average consumer can buy, not some of the cuff upgrade to make numbers
4) Total disclosure of upgrades used and availability of said product
5) Horsepower on a dynojet dyno with SAE correction for standardized HP/Torque
6) Euro tuners participation
7) More centralized local so more can view the next shootout
Other than the above, shootout perfect. My hats off to all participants, tuners, and European Car Mag.

Another really good Dyno would be the Dyno Pak. It's the one that bolts on to all four hubs (no slipping) and is the most accurate and most repeatable Dyno on the market. I bet the importer would be happy to sponsor the use of it as well.
lou,
you said it all. with the playing field leveled it would give consumers the opportunity to make intelligent decisions. Also, having euro turners would be nice. RUF offers a warranty which to ME is important. I don't have the money to replace my motor if it breaks. my o.o2. This shoot out was the most exciting thing I can remember tracking online and it seemed like a terrific way to start with so many modified cars. I've learned so much from this. I now know only enough to say that I'll probably be waiting for some long term data on how well the internals of the cars hold up before significant mods.

Rockitman,
In the world of supercar I think (just my opinion) comfort is a lot bigger than most admit too. When you think about it, how many of those cars had AC or a stereo systems or a sunroof (first thing I always remove) and sound deadening still in the car? The more you take the comfort out the more you convert a car to just another gutted out race car. How many people showed up with 100 cell cats and no muffler, I've done that on the streets and gotten away with it and it saves a bunch of weight off the rear too or what about just running straight pipes off the turbos. At that point why not just bring Loren Beggs 81 turbo out that's done sub 20's at Willow and an .08 at the Streets of Willow. That thing would have killed ever car there, but I don't think you'd wanna drive it up to Carmel on Hwy 1. So, where do you set the limits? Look at how many people got out of their GT2 or GT3's because of comfort. I think those cars cream puffs but, it seems a lot of others don't.
Again, this is only my opinion but, I thought the idea here was to have a fast as hell, easy to drive car that is street driven. When a car is so loud inside you can't stand to be in it for more than 20 minutes at a time, what's the point. I can't tell you how many times I've read about people complaining about muffler noise or noisey tires! If it's just about how fast you can go then next time lets all just bring race cars with dealer plates on them.
That's my $.25

I take that as a huge compliment from you
. I was so blown away with all the cool stuff there. I love the fact that there was cab and of course, your tip. People always say it can't be done with a tip well, I've now see it with my own eyes, very very cool! I went home with a huge Christmas list of things to do on my car!Rockitman,
I hope I didn't over do it ... I'm a bit crazed ... It's just that we've all see what can be done with no limits ... I'm just like seeing what can be done within limits. Thanks....

Seriously, at some point I would love to talk about how that was done. My car could benefit from it... 265/35s and 315/30s just aren't enough!
Xmas? I have no money left!!!
Sharkster,
The front is just a matter of changing the fenders and front end. (I'm working on molds right now)..the rear took some pretty serious body work but, my guy said he'd do it again and this time it would be easier ... they 1/4's are all metal worked.
As far as running my car... It really killed me not being able to but it just wasn't ready. If it would have been just another 6 weeks I would have been there on 335 DOT's and all... One of the things I didn't had done was the recalibration of the ABS to handle the tire height difference.

I figured it looked like a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into that. The end result obviously looks increadible but is obviously so functional with the new set up being possible.
I hear you on the timing but there's always a next time. Regardless your wide tires and stance scared the crap out of a few, that's for sure
