Coolant lines
 

How important is it to have coolant lines pinned on a 60k 2001 996 turbo. Owner does not know if they where pinned prior to purchasing car from RAC Performance. He has owned for 6 years. Any suggestions?

Bought my 2004 @ 54000 miles, nipples not addressed. First winter of ownership removed engine to replace all o'rings, seals,hoses,water pump and pin the coolant nipples. All done for peace of mind.... preventative maintenance. Nipples are held in place by a compound that can break down over a period of time which made me unsure of dependability. There are 8 nipples, all it takes is one. Determining weather they have been done or not is a simple visual, you can see most of them without too much effort.

It's about $3000 important.

Must do. I had one blow out luckily in my neighborhood. I jury rigged my fix as it was accessible but plan to drop motor and do them all so I can track it. Most tracks require it.

Sadly, they should require it. I'd be maddd if someone blew coolant out on the track due to this and wasted a good part of the day. It really is a huge screw up by Porsche. I had a few where the glue was nearly dust.

230,000 km. Not pinned. Checked them out when the engine was out for a new clutch - everything looked good. I'm not tracking much though. I have no intention of pinning unless I find one that isn't tight anymore. (Just thought I'd chime in to show the other option)

From the articles I've read since owning my 04, failure in this area on average is in about 4% . When I had the engine out I checked all nipples to be tight. Because if something is going to happen it will happen to me I pinned them anyhow.
