Interesting observation about porsche driving....is this true???
The last 7 days or so , I have driven my 996TT really mellow. By mellow, I mean I didnt hit the gas hard AT ALL and was just cruising. Since I just bought it recently , I feel that I will stress the car flooring the gas pedal often. But today, I took it out and wanted to feel the "hp/torque rush" so to speak and hit the gas pedal hard. The car hardly responded and was really sluggish. I stopped at several stores and each time the car felt a bit stronger & more responsive with each hard push on the gas pedal.
But I wonder, is it true that these cars need to be pushed hard as much as possible to keep them from being sluggish and slow-responding when you hit the gas pedal?
Are the components in the car like a muscle that atrophies if you dont use it, you lose it?

Have heard the ECU does adapt to your driving habits, but don't think it is extreme like in your case. I have heard if you disconnect the battery for a while(10 mins) it resets the ECU. I don't think your car should ever feel sluggish and not responsive as you say, maybe there is something going on.
it learns ur driving habbits... but if want to make sure... discennect for 5 minutes and drive someone hard.... for 100 miles or so...

Reset the DME by disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes. Then drive the snot out of her...you will not break the car...these cars are built like tanks!
The DME will then learn from your driving habits as indicated above. It takes a while for DME to get all the programing sorted out so it may feel odd at the beginning...just keep driving her hard....just like normal really.

As what everyone said about the ECU, you also need to "blow her out" once and a while. What that means is that you are blowing out any carbon buildup inside the engine which will also increase your throttle response.
