High Performance Intercoolers

I see them offered on Ebay by several different sellers from $150 a pair up. These are all aluminum and sold by non Porsche specific distributers/sellers who sell intercoolers, radiators and oil coolers for all makes. Likely an imported product made by a large manufacturer of heat exchanger type products. They look interesting, well made and maybe worth a try while avoiding the Porsche tax.. Has anyone purchased these?

They've been tried and they seem to be a little better than stock from what I gather. It's Chinese stuff. Get the GT2 RS setup if you are going through the trouble.

These spec out as, Description:

max horsepower capacity: up to 950HP
core length: 14 "
core height: 9"
core thickness: 3.5"
inlet / outlet size: 2.75" / direct fit on porsche oem piece
end to end length: 21"
each side good for : 620 cfm

For <$200 I'm wondering if these would give enough noticeable difference on a totally stock motor with stock exhaust, and worth the time for me to change them out. I never track, converted to RWD, like brisk runs in the canyons, occasionally runs over 150 mph the west deserts of Utah. Ex motorcycle road racer that likes to drive aggressively at times when it's safe, with no one around to witness it.

BTW, I don't see GT2 RS Chinese coolers for less than $200, more like $5K, that are heavily Porsche taxed, and maybe cost 5-10% more to produce.

REDSRT4 is infamous around these parts
If you're into lapping days, OEM GT2RS units from Autodoc in the UK will cost you less than $1k shipped. Autodoc in the UK has the Denso units. This is where everyone gets the deal from.

If you're drag racing where you're sitting around for a long time, get something that is a better heat sink.

Thanks for your replies, guys. For nearly 10 years of ownership, I've resisted an exhaust, a tune, and now intercoolers. I'm perfectly happy with the car 100% stock as far as power delivery and performance. I consider the KW-V1 coilovers, the adjustable rear sway bar, DIY adjustable dog bones, conversion to RWD easily reversible. No down side to doing suspension mods, all bolt on and easily returned to stock, a little bit goes a long way. Motor mods become quickly insatiable, don't want to start.

For comparison's sake, I'm 6 years into ownership of my '02.

Did Kline exhaust, custom 100 octane tune by Sam, shifter, adj. sways, wheels, tires in the first 18 months. Been super happy with the car ever since (disclosure it's only drive 1 or 2x per week). fast forward to the present, I live in a much hotter climate than SF, so I'm now doing a DO88 intercooler upgrade with Sam. We'll do a re-tune for both 91 and 100 octane, and I'll call it a day. My point being engine mods don't have to spiral out of control, I've been down that road before and know the pros and cons. The 996 Turbo responds so well to light mods and tuning it's enough to be entertaining for quite a long time (for me at least).

I have an '03 and did an I/C upgrade and saw a 20% decrease in air intake temps on a 90 degree day. Definitely a worthwhile investment.
