Question Need HRE wheel advice asap please

I am about to pull the trigger on HREwheels for my silver 996 turbo cab. I am stuck between the 840R and 841R. Either wheel will have the painted black centers, with 40 mm front offset and 30 mm rear offset. Any advice with be GREATLY appreciated.

I prefer the 841R's, but I think Mr. Sindi will be upset if that is what you choose

I do prefer 841Rs but with black centers actually I think the symmetry on the 840Rs might look better
I suggest you go to HRE wheels or get someone here to do a photoshop of both with black centers before you decide...
Who you ordering from?

Are you particularly looking for hidden hardware. If not have you seen the wheels that By Design offers. Very deep dish rears 5" (if thats what you are looking for) and 2" fronts. There were some readers who thought they were too deep but I just got them and I love them. May also be less expensive than HRE. But at least check them out before you make your final decision.

I, too, have seen your wheels and they are gorgeous Wondering how they are to clean and how the access to rotors are. Also, how do you like your coilovers?

The HRE's are both very compelling. Don't see a way to go wrong. Love to see pics with the final product!

Tough call. I am not a big fan of HRE's. They do not stand behind their products. I had a set of 542R's peel one month after getting them and I got the cold shoulder. I paid about $4000 for them and I thought it was a rip off. But if you have to choose I like the 841R's better. Check out GFG's they will do a black center too. Some of their stuff looks great.

996 Turbo, check out the thread on pg4, 12/8/2003 @ 11:16 posted by Darren911 entitled "more aesome By Design GT2 tt cab shots. Check out those wheels before making your decision. I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them. Kinda like seeing the right woman and falling in love at first sight. Although that hasn't happened to me yet. But I purchased my car about 2 weeks ago and walked into ByDesign with the intention of putting my Artec turbo wheels (19x10) on my turbo (came of a 996 cab). But as soon as I saw them I knew I had to have them. So you may want to check them out. I bought them right off the By Design GT2 tt cab.

gabf1, they have silver face with clear coat and a high polished lip so very easy to clean. The dirt doesn't really stick to the clear coat and comes right off the lip. And access to my rotors, there is so much room from the front and rear rotors because my car has the stock brakes and these wheels were designed and made specifically for the GT2 brake set up. So actually, now I have to upgrade my brakes.

As for the JIS coil overs. I was convinced that I was going to purchase the PSS9's. But then By Design took me for a ride in the shoot out car which had JIS setup. After the ride I changed my mind immediately. They are nice because as you know the height is adjustable but the the dampening and rebound is adjustible and it has camber adjustments as well. I wanted a more sporty feel but I do drive the car in LA and have to deal with the bumps and inconsistencies. They ride nice on those kinds of roads.

I am a big proponent of the 841Rs. I really like the agressive but classy look to them. 840R is almost too sporty IMHO. Either wheel is great though.

Y65MPH:

I am surprised to hear you had a hard time with HRE. They have been great to deal with in all my shop's encounters with them. Expensive, yes, but definately very outgoing with assiantance.

Thanks for all the input guys. I am leaning towards the 840R's only because, like TCM said, they are a little more sporty than the 841's. I am also amazed to find out how much mark up these wheels have....about 2K from wholesale to retail!! If anyone has a pic of the 840R's on a turbo with black centers...please post.
